Is there a point where the football program gets so bad, that it's unrecoverable

Clemson cannot compete with the surge in sustainable NIL money coming to some of the schools with bigger fan bases and bigger media deals. The only way we will be able to get in those ranges is some heavy innovation and maybe a move to the B1G or SEC. We aren't doing anything at Clemson that 40 other schools aren't doing, so the innovation isn't there, and at this point, I'm not sure a conference move is in the cards.

So with that, if our program gets into a tremendous hole, is there a point of no return where the hill is so steep that we can't climb out? We're seeing really close to that at places like VT (they went from routinely in the top of the college football world to now they aren't even mentioned in conference realignment). Even worse than keeping Frank Beamer long past when they should have, the world today is much more extreme and impacts are critical and long lasting (like getting left behind in conference realignment or even an upcoming super league).

With all the head coaching vacancies this year, there seems to be a bit more urgency for success. Should we be paying attention to that and does that mean we better be careful not to slip off the edge too quickly?

We are seeing the beginning of the demise of college football due to NIL.Ohio State and the Texas oil schools are already buying the best players and the gap will soon be non competitive as they have the most money.

Oregon needs to be cemented in this conversation until other schools abandon Nike, a la Maryland and Under Armour.

This is one of the reasons that in some ways I've been more concerned with us moving to another conference than really who our HC is.

Yes, it takes years and in most instances several coaches to get back to the middle of the pack. That's where we are now. You can hang onto a legendary coach too long and it costs you more than you can ever imagine. We're the poster child for this.

It seems even worse now than it did with you guys 20 years ago.

But, I believe we're another 2-3 years away from it being "unrecoverable".

Clemson needs a total-rebuild no matter who the Head Coach is IMOP. The sooner we get started the sooner we start winning again.

A lot of hard decisions by Clemson's BOT are imminent at the end of this season.

That long?
I was thinking we're 2-14 months from that point.

It's purely speculation / an educated guess.

Things always look worse when you're going through a crisis though. Clemson and Dabo have built up a lot of cache through the years, otherwise we'd already be past the point of no return.

To be honest, I'm not sure Clemson will ever win another NC with the current state of NIL and the Transfer Portal. I'm also not sure I care. I've reached the point of indifference.

I dont think our AD and BOT are overly concerned.

They are as clueless as Dabo appears to be about how far we’ve fallen and how bleak the future looks without significant changes.

No. College football has become unpredictable.

There is chaos every week.

Clemson can and will recover but we will need help along the way. Moreso than others

And if others claim they got there without a little help they're lying.

IMHO I believe the problem can be fixed quickly by creating internal competition. The incumbents at each position have been promised that they won’t be replaced by portal players and also will be paid a lot more money than an 18-22 year old should have.

Each week everyone needs to feel that their position is not secure and that they will be benched at a moments notice by someone who is hungry to perform and get notice. Look no further than yesterday’s KO return. Where is the hustle? Where was the pursuit? I guess the incumbents didn’t want to pull a hamstring?

Also, I feel like Cade’s performance improved because he now knows Vizzina can at least put up the same numbers he does with one exception and INTs by Cade went to zero yesterday for the first time in how many games?

That's a great idea, for coaching positions as well.

I'd like to see any current coach without at least 5 yrs prior experience at another school get the axe.

If we don't get better at coaching the rest of the stuff doesn't matter.
