ND to ACC/Big 12

Per Ingram Smith: "In the last 2 hrs I have had multiple calls saying ND is going to the ACC & Big12. ND is hedging their bets, in the end takes best offer"

No way ND goes to ACC....not happening. Completely illogical from their standpoint.

ACC is much, much more logical than B12 for them

Academically, school size, East Coast market/time zone which has the majority of their fans.
I just don't think they are going to join any conference for football at this point. Now the 6 non-conf games per year with the ACC is intriguing because 3 of those a year would belong to ACC TV deal so it would bump up the contract some and allow a better op to have them join as a full member 10 years or so from now if they finally have to join one for FB.
B10 would be 2nd on list if ND had to join a conf. B12 3rd. Heck if I was them, I would rather be Pac12 than B12

to be left out of the BCS they aren't going to move...right now they own a seat at the table with the other conf commissioners....if they join a conf they are merely one of the schools in a conf. They have far more influence now on the process than they would if they joined a conf. Plus...they aren't hurting for money. The absolute only way I see them joining a conference is if there were 4 super conferences who agreed to essentially play each other. Then they get locked out of games against conf teams in the B1G and the Pac-12.

That is true IF its only a 4 team playoff...

I still believe that at the end of the day, they are going to agree on an 8 team playoff. I find it hard to believe that 11 FBS Conferences are all going to agree that 4 conferences call all the shots.... there are some very good and powerful schools that are NOT in the SEC, B10,B12,P12... ND is just one example

I don't see Presidents agreeing to a 8 team playoff to start

off with...I think a 4 team playoff will obviously grow but here are a few reasons I don't think it happens off the start:
1.with a 4 team playoff you're talking about 15 games on a kids body. That's a lot for the title game participants. I get it's only one more game than now but these aren't people making decisions who like change in the first place....8 team playoff means you've added two games onto the kids...that's a lot of football and a much greater chance at injury. 2. With an 8 team playoff you're probably taking games later in the January...the break after Thanksgiving is for exams/finals so you can't have games then. 3. bowls are going to hate an 8 team playoff off the start and are going to rally against it...yes I get that bowls will host the games but the sham that is a "bowl" champion will be seen...what's the big deal that you won the Chicken bowl in Atl..you weren't part of the of the final 8.

we would then need another team. Would SCAR (The Chickens) be interested? UF would be nice... we need a good (football AND academic) Southern"ish" school to join also.

If they are honost with themselves, what are thier chances of EVER winning the SEC Championship?... very low. If they join the ACC, they could potentially be a huge contender "out of the gate". ACC is a lot more powerful then we give them credit for.

this is about $....you're aren't going to take less $ for a greater chance at winning...you raise your game/level of play.

completed...no reason to...their contract with NBC is for a few more yrs...they could use the Big12/ACC as a ploy in their negotiation for a new deal with NBC. I for one don't think they do anything...in the end they stay right where they are.

The ACC contract lock in third tier right of all schools.

You don't really believe ND will give their NBC contract up and join the ACC now do you?
Basically when Swofford signed the contract with ESPiN/Raycom he was telling ND to kiss his butt.

I don't think he has the juice to cut a deal with ND...
Jun 20, 2012, 2:12 PM

I think he has the will but the ACC/ESPiN contract won't allow for such. ND would ask to keep their third tier rights. That idea would go over like a led zeppelin.

i don't know. ESPN has an interest in protecting the value

of its contract with the ACC. ND joining the ACC increases the value of that contract for ESPN. they might be willing to revisit it. this would benefit clemson as well, as any deal given to ND would have to be given to clemson and everyone else as well. this is how we get our 3rd tier rights back. could be why this whole process is taking so long. because there's negotiating going on between so many different parties.

He says whatever he can to get people to write about him. This isn't going to happen either
Ingram Smith: FSU to the Big 12 – "It is Inevitable"
According to two people with the strongest ties possible to Florida State's Athletic Department, FSU fully plans on exiting the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State will begin its transition to the Big 12 Conference beginning this June. One source went as far as to say, "at this point the move is inevitable."
