She has said many times that she is African American (black), One parent from Jamacia and one from India. That would somewhat explain her complexion (I think she is attractive (but a left wing loney tune). Not trying to bring race into this but she is one that said she is black.
Elizabetn Warren claimed she was Indian (feathers not dots) and was proven wrong. Why would you claim to be something you are not??
I recall Obama claiming he was African American with one white parent and one black. 50/50 he could as easily claimed he was white.
We all are what we are as we were born. Why try to be something else ???

People like Obama have always been considered black (and not white) in the US. It wouldn't make much sense for him to call himself white, because he would never be seen and treated as if he was white. Other people would look at him and see a black man. That said, he has acknowledged and spoken many times about his white mother.
The "one-drop rule" that was law in much of the US said that people with any known black ancestry were black. If you had 7 white great-grandparents and only 1 black great-grandparent, you were still considered black and it was illegal for you to marry a white person in the South until 1967.
Kamala is mixed-race. There's no reason why she can't recognize and identify with both sides of her family. She has talked about being both black and Indian.

The one drop rule was never a written law that I know of, but a bad decision by the SC Supreme Court that got used all over the South. Even though the SC Constitution said the children in that case were white (1/32 african at the most, I believe), the court basically said that they were black because their neighbors claimed they were black and they could trace one ancestor who was considered black. The story behind it is pretty crazy if you dig into it, but it's summarized pretty well in a couple of books.

Found reference to a couple of laws circa 1910 considered to be one drop. The SC supreme court decision is from 1915 or 16. It was referenced in multiple other states after that.

A lot of black people are descendants of slave owners who raped their slaves and then enslaved their children. Slave owners like Thomas Jefferson, for example.
