I could See Clemson slipping to 4th or 5th this week. Why?
Nov 19, 2017, 9:39 AM
|
|
I think there is a chance Clemson drops to 4th or 5th. True...they beat the stuffing out of the Citadel, but Miami beat a FBS UVA with a winning record, Oklahoma put a beat down on a FBS Kansas and Wisconsin stayed undefeated beating a ranked Michigan.
With 3 undefeated teams I don't know if the "eyeball test" keeps Clemson at #2. Miami was on the ropes, but UVa is a decent team and they found a way to win....
If I were guessing, here is how I see it playing out:
1. Alabama 2. Miami 3. Wisconsin 4. Oklahoma 5. Clemson
I am not worried if that happens because Miami is going to have to lose a game for us to make it to the dance...
I am sure I am going to get flamed a little. I think we are a #2 team, I am just guess how this committee might go.

Instead we have moved up from 4th to 2nd.
It's abundantly clear. The committee does not WANT to drop us ... and winning 61-3 is not going to make them any more likely to suddenly want to punish us.
We are golden as long as we win ...

However, I agree with you (except I see it anywhere from 2 to 5). However, the rankings will shuffle again if/when we beat South Carolina on the road and Miami in the ACCCG.
Our resume got worse this week with NC State losing. They'll drop out of the top 25 and unless VT or enters again (doubtful), we'll only have one win against CFP top 25.

Clemson's SOS can't weaken because NCSU lost, when it was WFU that beat them. Heck, WFU was more competitive against ND than State was. Crap, if losses weaken SOS, Clemson hurts itself!

I didn't say our Strength of Schedule (SOS) got weaker. I said our resume got weaker. Every time they interview Kirby Hocutt after the rankings come out, he mentions wins over currently ranked teams when discussing various teams. NC State is going to drop out of the top 25 and we'll be left with one win over a current top 25 team. That means our resume is weaker. However, we should still have the same number of wins over teams with a winning record (another metric they stress). At the end of the day it will all straighten out because we have Miami in the ACCCG.

I think it will be Bama OU Miami Clemson/ Wisconsin I'm not sure they drop us out but we won't be no higher than 4. But beat the Coots and the Canes and we will finish no lower than 2.

They’ve done very little dropping unless you lose play an awful game, lose, or stay home while others are winning conf championship games. We did nothing to hurt our cause. I doubt we move at all. But I will agree with you if we fall to 5 we still would have to beat Miami which is where we are now. I think the cfp thinks we are the second best team in the country and we did nothing to disprove that this weekend.

Clearly you do not understand the selection process, it is not like the football polls which are based on your last game. The selection committee bases their selection on body of work. Which still should put Clemson #1 and Wisconsin should not gain ground for beating one team that is ranked.

While the ranking does not matter as much this week, we know we have to win 2 more to get in the CFP. However, you need to realize that Wisconsin, Miami, Bama, & Oklahoma have not finished playing their Conference Games yet. But I think all must win out to get in not just us. So I do not see us dropping to 5th with the Committee just because we played a Cupcake. I think us playing Auburn and Bama playing FSU both highly ranked at the time to start gives both of us the right to get our Cupcakes!

Clemson isn't going to slip and will remain at 2... I seriously doubt the CFPC top 6 will change at all with a high probability there won't be any changes in the top 10. None of the top 10 teams lost nor did anything happen during cupcake week to change the perception of any of the top 6 teams.
The only game of any note was the Wisconsin vs Michigan game. Wisconsin beat a barely ranked Michigan team (who will fall out of the rankings this week) and their "good" Iowa win took nose dive when Iowa lost to Purdue. So does anything Wisconsin did this weekend change any minds of the CFPC? I don't think so - I believe their only chance of getting into the top 4 is to win out and beat Ohio State in the Big 10 Champ game.

Who cares? The chickens may be ranked and Miami will definitely be ranked. If we win out we are in the playoffs. If we don't win out we won't be. Not flaming at you here but winning is the focus not the rankings. Whether we are #1 or #4 in the final rankings does not matter either. We will be in the top four if we win out.

Miami, Clemson, Wisconcin, Bama, and Oklahoma if they win out they are in. We know that two of these will eliminate the other one on Dec. 2nd. Where it gets interesting is if Osu beats Wis., Auburn beats Bama and then beats Uga, can Alburn get in with two losses, will bama get left out with one loss and so forth what if the Sooners get beat in their championship game.

ESPN agrees, as they just posted bowl projections with Clemson in the Orange Bowl against Notre Dame.
The best part is that we don't have to hope for Miami to lose. That's all in our control.

If we were good enough for #2 last week, what logic would drop us. If the Syracuse loss isn’t hurting us, then a 58 pt beat down of the Citidel certainly won’t hurt. Matter of fact, it’s what the committee expected.

I couldn't help but laugh at this. You counted a 1-9 now 1-10 Kansas as a better quality win? Enough to go up in ranks?? Wow, also a late comeback win against a .500 team at home isn't impressive enough to rise over us playing to near perfection all game.
