That’s the one that sucks the most. It’s literally on the creek. People go there specifically for fresh local shrimp.

While I applaud the efforts, bottomline is the local shrimpers cannot supply the local markets during tourists season and dead of winter. Several days of bad weather or after season ends puts a stop to the supply especially with short shelf life.
I guess the bottomline is the restaurants should not have marketed local seafood if they were not supplying that product. I am not sure this is a win for local commercial shrimpers or not. If their prices go up then the restaurants just remove word 'Local' and still buy the cheaper farm raised products.
I am on the fence about this whole ordeal.

I have heard several shrimpers say how excited they were for this as they expected local product prices to go up substantially and they felt they could make a better living. But at end of day, restaurants have to make a profit as well and they will keep their margins whether its local or farm raised products.
But I could definitely see where local fisherman see this as a win.

grilled seafood platter. Now, I have been getting the seafood platter since I was 20 years old, back when I could eat the FRIED seafood platter without all the heartburn. Back when you got TWO pieces of flounder, shrimp, scallops, oysters, crabcake, baked potato and slaw or a house salad. Son, the piece of flounder (and it could not have been flounder, unless they cut it in half) was about the size of a decent bream. You could almost have put it on a CRACKA (If you have seen that Cajun's videos) and eaten it in one bite. Anyway, Mrs. Spud got something similar, we had one cocktail each, tea,and no dessert and I think my bill counting a decent top was almost $110.00............

Independent seafood in Georgetown went under, and they had the best shrimp on the whole Coast. Probably got priced out of the market from all this imported farm raised junk

They have plans for the property, but are catching grief from the historical committee. I hate they closed it because I would either go there or McClenanville for my shrimp.

I just go down to Simmons seafood, using a $20 bill as bait, and I get a local pound and a half of shrimp every time.

Hymans is trash and being named in one of those 25 restaurants doesn't surprise me. What did surprise me was Waters Edge and Tavern and Table being on that list. No restaurant on Shem Creek should be on that list. All the shrimp and fishing boats are docked feet away from them. Shame on them. Looks like Vickerys will be my go to on Shem Creek from now on.

Wow. Page’s Okra Grill and Saltwater Cowboys too. When we were growing up down there, we always caught our own shrimp in the creeks around Johns Island. Back then there were no license requirements, seasons, or limits. They have made everything so complicated I wouldn’t even know how to get started these days. One story about shrimping my Dad always talked about - if you got lucky and were shrimping in Coburg Creek when they discharged the whey from their cottage cheese vats (yes, they used to discharge it directly into the creek) you could load up your cooler in no time. He always wanted to find someone who could give him a “schedule” of wham this would happen but never made that connection. I worked at Coburg on an internship through Clemson in 1983-84 but by then they had stopped making cottage cheese there.

When Page’s okra grill decided to double its size the food quality went way down hill. It’s already prepared U.S. Food that they just heat up.

A lot of people think the only good seafood is fried seafood especially if you are 100mi plus away from coast. But if you ask someone from Ohio their favorite seafood, most would say fried shrimp or fried flounder.
When I visit my parents in Iowa, only after moving back for 10yrs, they have turned to fried seafood because you literally can't get seafood any other way. If it ain't fried, it aint good. I always try to bring something fresh and either grill or steam it for them.

My parents were both born in 1925 and grew up in SC and south GA. My Mom fried EVERYTHING. I guess that was the way most poor rural southerners cooked. Probably because you could make gravy after frying the meat and that, along with biscuits really stretched how far a little bit of meat would go. She loved fried shrimp so we ate most of it that way. Sometimes it was just boiled, but usually fried. Never bothered me any.

Hyman's whole fried flounder is very good. That is far as I will go with them. Independent Seafood in Georgetown was very good and I purchased from them often. However, they sold their property for real estate purposes and condos and so on will be built there.
