Pulled one over on Sarahadidas this morning.

So her family has been working the crap out of me recently...
REDOING THE WATER DAMAGED FLOOR, AND SUBFLOORING IN HER BROTHER BATHROOM. INSTALLING SHOWER HANDLE FOR HER GRANDMA REWIRING AN ELECTRIC RECLINER FOR HER GRANDMA REPAIRING AND REINSTALLING A KITCHEN FAN FOR HER PARENTS (DEAD MOUSE JAMMED IN THE FAN... EWWW) REPAIRING A GENERATOR FOR HER PARENTS INSTALLING LINOLEUM FOR HER BROTHER LEAKING SHOWER FAUCET FOR HER GRANDMA
This is all in the past few weeks. They use me like a freaking handyman and I'm getting a little tired of it. I have my own POS house than I need to work on.
Soooo, her dad asked me yesterday if I could run up to Home Depot and with my truck and grab some drywall for him because he is having some Hondurans redo the ceiling in his kitchen (because I finally said "no" to them.
I told him sure, but that I wouldn't be able to do it for a few days and he should ask his daughter since she is off work today.
Wife calls me today.... "my dad wants me to grab some drywall for him. Is your truck cleaned out?"
lulz...
"nope. There's a 12' ladder in the back, an old toilet, a disassembled generator, 200lbs of cobbed deer corn, a bunch of gravel, and a few shovels"
So she's out there cleaning the back of my truck out to go pick up her dad's drywall. Also the AC doesn't work in the truck and the passenger window doesn't roll up.
After she cleaned out my truck, I told her that her dad could have probably rented a truck and picked the crap up himself for $25.
hehe

We seem to be running a global deficit of people who know how to do basic sh##, and I can’t tell if they’re truly ignorant, or if it’s a cunning ruse to get people like us to just do it for them.

It's a complicated situation...
Aug 13, 2020, 9:38 AM

Her parents watch my kids during the day while they work from home 2-3 days a week. We don't pay them for it... so we sorta owe them.
Her grandma is like 90 years old, BUT she has a son, SIL, and a grandson who all live within 20 minutes of her.... I'm 1000000x more handy than they are, but still... some of these chores are pretty basic.
Her brother is the one that really really irks me. He's like 29 years old, has been working from home for months, so has enough free time to do anything himself. This damage was covered under insurance, but he wants to do the job cheap and pocket the extra money. Wife and her parents guilt tripped me because he has a new baby that was born with crazy heart issues and whatnot. I've talked bout that baby before. She's doing quite well now, btw. He's just a lazy POS that lays around and plays video games 24/7. I agreed to do it as a favor to my FIL for them watching the kids all of the time.
Plus my own dad is always trying to get me to do stuff for him. I just started flat out telling him "no" occasionally. "NO, I'm not rebuilding the engine on a $300 generator." No, I'm not troubleshooting your 30 year old washing machine... etc."
Then the other day, my step dad dropped off a pressure washer and asked me to take a look.... It probably just needs to have the carb cleaned, but a brand new carb is only $5. He's retired... he should can handle that crap himself.
I have two young kids at home and a lazy azzz wife. I work 55 hours a week, am trying to build a cabin in the woods, get ready for deer season, get my drink-on, and cut 3 hours worth of grass a week. People have no damnnn respect for or value for MY time.
I'm gonna eventually lash out and show my redneckass infront of all these people and it ain't gonna be pretty.
Man I need a drink.

Same situation. It's almost like we are eskimo brothers

except I'm catching it on both sides. One side I don't mind as much. The other side is rough.
My grandmother keeps my kids. Usually we pay her $10 per kid per day She's retired and the only income other than SS she gets is keeping kids. Well lately I have been cutting her grass which takes a good hour wide open on a zero turn, 3 hours on her lawnmower and fixing odd and end stuff around the house.
Problem with that is, her other daughter, my aunt, and her 17 year old son live 2 miles from her house. Can't get them to go out there and do ####. Luckily I don't have much to do these days so it's not a problem. But little ol granny is so sweet, she gave me her lawnmower to keep at my house since mine broke and demanded that she pay for that new dishwasher. She wrote the check but I"m not cashing it.
Now on the other side is a COMPLETELY different story. SIL calls me all the time to fix this or fix that or feed the dogs or whatever. I don't mind helping some especially since her husband died 3 years ago yesterday in a hunting accident. BUT, she has a brother and father that are both way more capable than I am at fixing stuff since both have worked construction most of their lives. But I"m the one that gets called because she has been such a ##### to both of them they refuse to help her anymore. She tried that #### with me and I left too. She quickly changed her tune because without me she wouldn't get ANYTHING done around that house. Partly because she doesn't know how and the other part is because she's the laziest POS I've ever met. Even when her husband was alive.
Anyways.

My 16 year old is pretty interested in learning to fix thing
Aug 13, 2020, 9:53 AM
|
|
He's got some buddies that work on their own vehicles so he gets encouragement from more than just me.
My daughters and youngest son haven't lived with me their whole life but they are pretty much useless and look at me like I'm crazy when I try to show them how to do something. The oldest considers herself a bit of a feminist and would be outraged at how the mechanic puts stuff over on her when she gets her car worked on but she doesn't know enough to know she's being ripped off so she gets mad at me when I tell her she's not allowed to approve any work or pay for anything they tell her she needs without calling me first.
My goal is to make sure my 2 year old is both interested and able to at least talk to a service tech about what she thinks is wrong.

we're losing a lot of trade skills.
I absolutely suck at mechanic skills even though I have a good grasp of mechanical systems.
That said, I will do electrical work, but I know that I am slow AF, don't know any secrets to make things go faster, but at least I know it will be to code and work when I'm done.

First of all, he's like seven feet tall... but never played any sports other than B team football.
He has some liberal arts degree in acting or musical theater or some such BS.
Used to date dime pieces, but married this old Debbie Downer looking vegan hag a few years ago. Basically he just refused to come home one day, moved back home with his parents and texted the wife that he wanted a divorce. (That one was pretty funny actually, because that chick was a C*nt)
Remarried, had baby - and the baby has had some serious issues. She was at MUSC for her first 5 months. She's doing great now, though. So that is awesome.
Wife had to quit work to be home with the baby and I'm pretty sure my inlaws are paying his mortgage... because he probalby makes like $30k/year. However, he has shelves full of high dollar colectible Pokimons and movie props and and every gaming system under the sun and 4K tvs in every room... but poor him, he can't pay his mortgage or fix his own bathroom floor.
The maddest I've ever been was when the baby had an episode a few months back. We all thought she was dying. We were up at the E/R and they medivac'd her to to MUSC. Brother in law and Sister in law jumped in their car to follow the helicopter and head to MUSC. Wife and I ran home to get some supplies for them. He made a huge deal out of us getting his Nintendo Switch and all of the games and chargers and whatnot.... Are you kidding me????? Your a grownazzz man with a critically sick baby and all you are concerned about is your Nintendo Switch? I wanted to knock his teeth out.

The day of my moms funeral he pitched a temper tantrum because "it was too early on a Saturday".
