Not sure why so many here are bashing this Notre Dame

Sep 13, 2012, 8:17 PM

deal. Obviously, we'd rather have them for full membership, but that may come in the future. Every article I have seen from USA Today to Sports Illustrated to ESPN to CBS to LA Times says this was a win-win deal. Right off the bat any question about the ACC breaking apart is history. Any question about four major conferences vs five major conferences is also history. The ACC's bowl line-up will improve, the money will improve. Every school is going to play Notre Dame once every three years.

I think this was a great move by the ACC and even Swarbrick says that if a day comes that ND has to join a conference the ACC will be their home.

There is a site called Atlantic Coast Convos and they have a collection of articles from across the country about this deal.

I think this was a great development for the ACC.

Because some people wanted out of the ACC and this just stopped that.

SEC, but never warmed up to being an island of the Big12. And while I may have wanted to someday be SEC, I also believe that an intact ACC or intact ACC with Notre Dame is even better. We will be one of the big dogs with VT, FSU, Miami, GT, and ND. Any conference with those teams plus the other state flagship universities is a major player. THe ACC has three of the top 13 teams in the country right now, plus five of the top 20 teams in recruiting rankings now.

Also, when the other leagues are making the move to 16 in the future, the ACC will already be at 15 as Notre Dame will have to come all in. As for out 16th, it really won't matter, but we will have plenty of applicants.

Add to all of this the academic prestige and it is great.

Unless it's forced, you'll never see them sign up for football.

full membership soon. They were "everything but football" with the Big East for the better part of 2 decades.

I have argued this too. In fairness they never had any football commitment to the BE. We got 5 games a year.

We are less needy than the Big East but more needy here than the Big 12 or BIG10

what would he say? Were all of the "secret" negotiations with the SEC really with ND? What about the "reliable sources" who were close to and privy to the negotiations?
The ND-ACC tie-in was no overnight deal. Negotiations have been going on for quite a while. IMO, The addition of ND is a big plus for the conference.
