I believe in our recruiting

I see a lot of criticism of our recruiting recently and I can agree with a very small portion of the gripes. I always think back to FSU when they had Willy T. Five stars all over the field but no football players. Program was gone faster than a toupee in a hurricane. If I had any issue it would be with our unproven coaches but time will tell with that!

I don't know if anyone is worried about us collapsing into irrelevancy. We are mostly worried that we will no longer remain an elite program. The culture that Dabo has built will almost always keep us around 10 wins per year. Winning 10 games last year was a incredible accomplishment, given the amount of injuries. That was all culture.
We will have the culture and have more talent than most teams in the conference. However, we are concerned that we won't be able to compete with the Bama's and Georgia's of the world. I think that is what scares people the most. It feels like our status as an elite program is dwindling. Recruiting is one reason why, but the biggest reason is the portal.

A hard-nosed, blue collar team that is well respected and wins alot of games, but lacking enough elite talent to win CFP games. Not the worst thing in the world.

We will have to be better than those VT teams, at least talent wise. The ACC is getting better.
Doeren has turned NC State into a good program Hafley is doing good things at Boston College Clawson has managed to make Wake Forest a factor Satterfield is close with Louisville
Narduzzi has turned Pitt into a good program Mack Brown has vastly upgraded UNC's roster Cristobal is a huge upgrade at Miami Tony might have a chance to find success at UVA Collins might get fired, but he's upgraded GT's roster

That would be extremely disappointing

considering the fact that we spend money like a playoff team (coaching salaries, facilities, etc.).
If we are okay being good but not great (which I hope is not the case), then we should dial back our football expenditures considerably.
I know a basketball program that could use some extra money thrown its way.

The problem is we are still following the old game plan of offering top 150 players and waiting them out. In the mean time the 150-300 players are looking elsewhere as they have no offer so we get stuck with a project player. We can build a good team with the 150-300 type players with a few targeted top 150 guys and some solid 3* guys nut need to focus on this plan from the jump

I think we are already seeing a slightly expanded net. Currently we have 17 3* offers and 24 lower 4* players. That means 42 of our ~83 offers, 50%, are outside of the top 150 and 20% are 3* players.
