But, I haven't seen anything outside of 40 yards this year
He is 1-6 on field goal attempts of 40 yards or more and the one he made was 41 yards with a coastal wind to his back
I guess the staff feels confident that he will get the ball over the LOS more consistently than Gunn, but I don't see the logic in weitz kicking field goals over 40 yards unless we are out of time at the end of a half.

I pretty much agree with you. I would like to see Gunn get a chance to prove

himself the last 2 games and gain some confidence to compete with Nolan Hauser, the new guy coming in next season. Hauser holds the record for most field goals made in a high school career.

Last we saw Gunn he could barely clear the helmets of his blockers. He's a blocked kick waiting to happen and we can't afford that against the Coots.
It doesn't really matter what happens in a mid-tier bowl though. Through him out there then and see if he's made any progress.

We need to play as if, we have no field goal kicker.

Our line to gain for a viable field goal attempt is the 20.***

Gunn takes too long in his wind up, which is why he had a couple blocked. He needs to start his kicking motion as the ball is snapped and he hesitates too much. Hopefully that's something that he will get corrected this offseason.

Dabo said Gunn has been inconsistent in practice as well...

So I understand him not getting another shot during the games.

We should keep using Weitz for FG’s within 45 yards, except when there is a strong head wind.
Gunn has got to prove that he can kick the ball straight enough to be within 10 yards of the side of the base of the goal post. He needs to be that close on 95% of his FG attempts in practice before he is put in a game for anything other than a 50+ yard attempt at the end of first half or at the end of the game.

Yeah.
My biggest concern on gunn, is his height on kicks
Miss it right or miss it left, that stinks but we are playing defense
Kick it into the LOS and the ball starts bouncing around, and that's real trouble

He's not an option. He just couldn't handle it. I feel bad for him. But that's it. His shot is long over.
