I am extremely conservative...

Feb 4, 2013, 3:29 PM

Ron Paul is extreme.

Am I a neocon?

Well that depends.

Feb 4, 2013, 3:41 PM

Do you believe constitutional foreign policy is to maintain thousands of bases around the world and to bomb/occupy any country that doesn't obey our demands?

Do you believe billions of dollars should be sent to every country around the world, with stipulations that they have to buy weapons from US defense contractors?

Do you believe in a managed economy domestically, with "compassionate" programs such as Medicare part D and No Child Left Behind?

If you answered yes to any of these, then yes.

I answered no to all of those questions...

but the questions are loaded

Unfortunately, CharlestonTom merely distilled the

policy into concentrated shots. He didn't fabricate.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

PS - Obummer's policies are "yes" to all 3 questions.***

BHO says "yes." as opposed to the Bush era "YES!"

So our treasure is being incinerated at a slightly lower temperature today. :(

Good. You aren't a neocon.***

It is amazing how much non-neocon conservative and

Feb 4, 2013, 3:51 PM

and 60's liberalism have in common.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lots of neocons are ex-liberals. This is news?

Feb 5, 2013, 9:19 AM

Anyone who follows Republican politics knows that there is a schism - a historied, probably irreparable one - between:

- Old school conservatives best typified in the modern era by Pat Buchanan, Paul, maybe Goldwater, and currently the Tea Party, and
- Former social democrats who drifted to the right on geopolitical issues mostly in response to Soviet fears. Here lies Irving Kristol and anyone he ever influenced in his entire life, which is basically 90% of the modern GOP.

What I want to know is, how is it "good" for liberals that they are essentially indiscernible from their most hated rivals?

Personally, I began to think sometime during the last election cycle that [dons tin foil hat] the GOP (the neocon GOP, that is) and the dems are basically fighting for the same thing, and we're just pawns. Take a look at the membership and activities of bipartisan organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations and convince me that the past 20 years hasn't been about removing individual liberty and consolidating power in the hands of a few. [removes tin foil hat]

Me? I'm plugging myself into the Matrix. I don't care about any of these bozos anymore.

Actually its 60's conservatism. See Barry Goldwater***

I'm not sure how neoconservatism...

Feb 4, 2013, 3:58 PM [ in reply to Well that depends. ]

is supposed to necessarily lead to one supporting those policies. Some neoconservatives probably would support those, but some others might not. Once again, you're just defining things that seem like imprudent ideas as "neo-conservative" and not giving much thought to what neoconservatism actually is.

i fought this battle for 8 years not doing it again

Feb 4, 2013, 9:35 PM

You had the SAME people on this board one day describing Neocon as "extreme right wing" (as MSNBC normally does) and the very next day a Neocon was an otherwise liberal person who had a hawkish foreign policy (which I think is technically more correct, but regardless).

The tied themselves in a knot because they simply wanted to describe it in ANY negative light regardless of the issue, and it became a way to smear any conservative.

Re: I am extremely conservative...

Feb 4, 2013, 9:52 PM

I am a moderate. Do I find Ron Paul extreme, yes. Do I always agree with him, no. Do I find him intelligent and a man who makes some valid points(unlike the unintelligent extreme blithering idiots, Bachmann and Santorum), yes. Do I question that the Senate dolt, Rand is the "fruit of Ron's loins", yes.
