My confidence in this coaching staff is all but gone (long)

I've tried my hardest to support Dabo. I switched my thinking, went more positive etc and things started looking good for the program. Decisions were still questionable at times and we had to look past some embarrassing losses to good teams (FSU, SC, WVU). But I kept the positive outlook as much as I could, defended him and Chad.
I just can't do it anymore. I can't defend either one anymore. Nor can I really be optimistic anymore. Can we win 8-9 games a year every year? Sure. But I don't see us maintaining 10-11 wins again unless we luckily land another Boyd/Sammy/Nuk/Ellington combo at the same time. It's certainly possible.
It's becoming apparent to me that those names listed above along with Dwyane Allen and Martavis made Chad Morris look better than he really is. Why do we have to go back to basics with a senior? Great offensives minds are able to put up big or at least respectable numbers no matter who their players are. Mike Leach, Urban Meyer, Spurrier, Paul Johnson, even Lane Kiffin will put up points no matter who they have. Our offense is terrible. It's better with Watson by a mile or 10, but even with Watson it isn't what it was. Couple this with the fact that Chad has completely proven incable of making adjustments the last 4 years when stifled by a good defense, and I have completely lost confidence in him.
Dabo is now weekly making people wonder what the hell he is thinking. We were told that Stoudt would "play on Sundays" and that with him our offense would be one of the best in the country. And that our RB corp would be great. Stoudt supposedly beat out Watson (which seems entirely impossible) and DJ Howard started the season. After the first game it was apparent, even from one drive, that Watson was head and shoulders above Stoudt, but fans were basically told to shut up.
FSU game comes along and all of a sudden Dabo realizes the fans were right. Unfortunately Watson gets hurt and we have to start Stoudt any way for a few games. We're fed BS about Stoudt leading us to victory in those games (not even close) when it was actually our defense that we had to thank for all of them and Stoudt hardly played great in all but one and even that one he wasn't "player of the game" worthy.
Then comes along GT, Watson gets hurt again ad Stoudt goes 3-11, 19 yards, 3 INT, 2 pick sixes and now Dabo is feeding us this line that Stoudt has what it takes to win??? Against who? Wake? Certainly not GT, certainly not SC and absolutely not in our Bowl game!
The Cole Stoudt project has failed. It failed 2 months ago. It is time to move on Dabo. Your constant feeding us of BS is becoming offensive.
I've completely lost confidence in both Chad and Dabo, more so in Chad based on ability and his already questionable play calling in the past. At this point I'd rather see Chad move on and we hire an OC with a bright future and give the difference in pay to Brent to keep him around.

but then we would both be wrong.
I guess you missed the previous seasons. The orange bowl win, etc etc
Those players you mentioned? You think they would be here without Dabo? Yeh me neither.
We were in for a rough season losing a three year qb and all world WR. Suck it up

I'm not asking for 10 or 11 wins and an orange bowl. I'd just like to see something that looks similar to an offense with a senior QB.
Dabo is a mastermind at recruiting and I want him to stick around. Just stop feeding us the BS. I miss when dabo just told it like it was. That was one of the things we loved about him.

as bad as Stoudt may be....

Saturday was certainly on the far end of dismal performances, even for him. He's played "well" enough to win the rest of the season.
I think maybe you are expecting this senior QB to do some things he just cannot do.
By the same token, I'm sure the unexpected losses through injury and dismissal were not anticipated by the coaches. We are thin at the QB position. That should improve the next couple of years. The type of QBs we need are the ones that are wanting to come here.

He's played well enough to win relevant to our defensive play. Just because our defense is so good that "well enough to win" means bad decisions that ended up not being intercepted that should have been, or inability to escape pressure, staring down receivers and throwing behind receivers on screens was "well enough". Our defense was so good and the teams we played so bad that stoudt's "well enough to win" was still pretty terrible. He looked ok in second half of the Wake game, but it's wake.
"I think maybe you are expecting this senior QB to do some things he just cannot do."
No I'm just expecting him to do what the coaches tell us he can do. If he can't do it then he shouldn't have been named starter for UGA. That wouldn't make any sense would it? And they're still telling us he's capable.

I believe he can do what the coaches are saying. I believe what they are saying. If Stoudt had any self confidence, it's all gone now.
He was not terrible at the beginning of the year. He has progressively gotten worse. Don't care if he is a senior or not, not sure I could function under what he has had to function under all season. He's the starter, he's not the starter, he's the starter, he's not the starter, fans hate him. He's probably just ready to move on.

our offense played "just well enough to win"? 'Bama will be in the playoffs because they're offense played "just well enough to win" against a crappy LSU team.
I will say this, I've been disappointed in Cole's performance this year and we probably can't beat USuCk with him at QB. But the bashing has to stop. The kid is playing injured and he's doing it behind an inept offensive line, with an OC that has no clue what to do without a 230 lb mobile QB.

He said Defense would be our strong point. If DW hadn't gotten hurt at all this year we wouldn't be having this conversation. That's it. Time to support and move on. If we were 6-4 or worse I would understand a little more but 10 wins is still possible. Feat nothing less than amazing.

We haven't had a great OL in years. I don't buy that. Our problem is that we have an OC who refuses to change up his offense according to situations. It's either his offense in full or basic. Well it ain't working. Why not lineup in the I and just run the ball? Try something geeze.

Ever consider that most coaches are slaves to a particular scheme , and certainly Chad Morris is that . He runs a version of the spread option and he is pretty darn good at that style. It may be akin to why Burger King doesn't make Pizzas ...they aren't equipped for it and have no reason to change what they are making ...which is deliciously flame broiled hamburger goodness. Chad Morris has said it over and over , we do what we do. @ 7-3 & 6-2 ACC we have come through some adversity and succeeded to a degree. Not certain that a lot of our fans appreciate the difficulty of winning at this level ...even in the ACC . I think being disappointed at a team that is bowl bound and has a winning record is a little harsh and somewhat out of focus.

Why not "Stoudt didn't play very well. We'll evaluate our options this week" and leave it at that? Why push stoudt down our throat when they ask about Sheussler?

Anyone who has watched Stoudt knows that this it's physically impossible for Schuessler to be worse.
If Stoudt got the unjustified benefit of doubt over Watson, shirley he gets the same over Schuessler.

If Sheussler is worse than stoudt he shouldn't even be on the team. We were told that Watson wasn't as good as Stoudt. I don't buy it. The project has failed. Let's move on and give someone else a chance.

I might would buy that if I didn't have history to tell me that he really believes what he is saying. Stoudt started the season and it's obvious he should have never seen an opening snap until Watson got hurt.

I question the coaches' decisions every week. What the heck are they thinking. But I also realize they know more than me, both football wise and what is going on inside the program.
The biggest problem with this team is the lack of experience at every skilled position on the offense. Every game, even in the wins, it has been a comedy of errors. We seem to try to beat ourselves every week. Been that way all season.

is this guy is a true freshman. Even Watson's high school said he was being handled the right way. Who knew he would have handled the pressure so well.
Hindsight maybe they were wrong, but if you are easing the freshman in, would you say "Watson is the better QB, but we're going to start this senior until we think he's ready." Easy to question their decision, but it would have been a huge risk to start Watson against Georgia.

(maybe even got pulled for Stoudt), and we lost that game, the same people now saying Stoudt should've never seen a meaningful snap all season would've crucified Dabo and Morris for starting Watson before he was ready, losing us the game, and possibly even damaging Watson's long-term confidence.

Supporting him and defending him is a lot different than wanting him fired. I'm saying I can't take up for his decisions anymore. I don't want him fired. I don't want anyone fired. Just deciding that I can no longer give the benefit of the doubt. Too many terrible decisions all around this season.

Getting your panties in a wad about coach speak and the balancing act that all coaches have to make with their public comments is patently ridiculous.
The problems we have right now on offense are well documented and they have nothing to do with coach speak.

I have two problems with the coaching staff.
Nov 17, 2014, 9:18 AM
|
|
One, I totally agree that Watson should have been the starter from the opening play at Georgia. The inability to judge talent is inexcusable.
Two, the play-calling against Georgia Tech was terrible. There was no need to run Watson. It should be obvious to everyone by now that he is injury prone. Just let him throw the ball and run (and slide) only when he has to.
I am beginning to get concerned with the Morris's play calling. Stoudt should not be asked to throw the ball downfield. I agree about lining up in the I and just running the ball mixed with screens and dump offs to the running backs.
I'm not at the point of calling for anyone's job.

It is ALWAYS easier to be a critic and tear people down than
Nov 17, 2014, 9:24 AM

build them up. Always.
That being said it is harder to build trust. Trust comes from success. Dabo gets my vote because of his track record being so good over the last 4 years. Did we win them all-No. Did we beat USuC-No. But we won more games than in the last 25 years. 25 years of frustration. So, we have come a long way in 4 years with big win seasons and big wins over big programs. We have a great recruiting class lined up and we have great kids. We can still finish with 3 wins to make this season end right.
Is Dabo perfect. No. Is any coach perfect. No.
Clemson is on the right track and all it takes is a little more faith. This is no Tommy Bowden thing. Dabo has proved he can build and is still building this program.
Sorry for those who have little insight or foresight of where we were, where we are, and where we are going.

two things

1. I question the play calling for sure, seems suspect at a minimum. 2. No one : not CEO's, military leaders, coaches - play their hands completely in the open media. It would be incredibly dumb to do so. To the public, leaders express the positive. I am sure behind closed doors everyone on the coaching staff realizes how bad Stoudt is and the bind we are in. I do believe Dabo will get this corrected as well.

What do you want him to say, Ron?

He's got to say those things to try to keep his player's shaky confidence up...

Re: My confidence in this coaching staff is all but gone (long)

I guess that is why you are not an AD. Not everyone has the heart of a champion, and I am glad Dabo does not have your DNA. I would hate for them to listen to you after a loss. You want to know what a heart of a champion is then watch this team play. Faced with adversity (a depleted OL, average Qb, young Rbs), these coaches that you had no confidence in leaned on our defense to go 4-1. I understand the team played poorly, but if I know anything about this team and staff will stay ALL-IN and find a way. Rather than throw stones. Early in the season, when our so called fans booed Cole still getting time. Maybe the coaches had the foresight that Deshaun may be too fragile to complete a season, and we need Cole to be ready. We helped the situation by lending our support (sarcasm) to build his confidence .

No team can "maintain 10-11 win seasons"

Every team CFB, even those recruiting at the highest level with great coaches, are going to have a down/rebuilding year every so often (unless their head coach is named Saban). I'm not making excuses for the bone headed coaching and lack of depth at key positions we've seen this year. However, to sit there and expect to win 10-11 games EVERY year, and to lose all faith in the coaching staff when it doesn't happen for the first time in FOUR years is a little ridiculous. Especially when we lost Sammy/Tajh/etc.

That is not what I said. I never said I expected to maintain that. I said I don't expect us to get back to a run of 10-11 wins season UNLESS we land a really special class again. I believe those players made Morris look better than he really is. Without them he has no clue how to put up points.
