Reality is We are not going Anywhere

May 24, 2012, 10:22 AM

I hate to say it, but its not going to happen. Of course we have our options open, and are talking to people, who wouldn't with what is going on? But at the end of the day when the dust settles, the ACC will still have all its member, still have the Orange Bowl Tie In, and still have 2 teams in the Chic-fil-a Kickoff Game.

It sucks, but nothing will happen.

dont take a nape!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree.

May 24, 2012, 10:49 AM

I agree. CU should have been in the sec long ago. But poor leadership will mean a continuation of being stuck in, and screwed by, the acc. No change coming.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In that case I hope we win important games then.***

Ok nagative nancy, you're already wrong on one account.

In 2014 the chick fil a kickoff is Boise St. vs Ole Miss and Bama vs WVU. We've already lost it.

The ACC is done. either get off the bus or ride it over the cliff.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We haven't lost it.

May 24, 2012, 10:55 AM

The game was never meant to be an annual SEC vs. ACC game.

The ACC will be in the next 3 games and will continue to participate in the event in the future.

You guys are in such denial it's funny. Once expansion is done the ACC is done in football.

I'm just pointing out your false statements

May 24, 2012, 11:02 AM

"Virginia Tech has already been confirmed for the 2009 Kickoff, but Stokan is not married to the idea of an ACC-SEC matchup every year, like they have in the bowl. Teams with a national identity, a Michigan, Ohio State or Texas, will be likely targets for future years."

J - I tend to agree. ACC will not go down without a fight.

May 24, 2012, 9:49 PM

As bad of a decision maker as Swofford is made out to be on this board, he is not dumb enough to let all his football schools bolt and then take the enevitable financial hit that is sure to come. Football pays the athletic bills for most all of the ACC schools. If he has to, Swoffie and the ACC will probably make Clemson, FSU and VT offers they can't refuse. Something like a higher percentage of earnings the higher a school finishes in football.

Everyone on this board is a fan and not a BOT member or Barker. Fans don't realize what a bid deal it is to be associated with the academic excellence that is the ACC. Barker, etal will not leave the ACC easily. I heard a stat that the average US News ranking for ACC schools is something like 49. Texas, which is a great school in its own right, only ranks about 54th. Going to the Big 12 is a major step down academically for any ACC school. Like it or not, this means something to the people who are not just fans but actually make the decisions about conference membership.

May 24, 2012, 11:04 AM [ in reply to J - I tend to agree. ACC will not go down without a fight. ]

What exactly does an athletic conference have to do with the academics that a school offers?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dolf, if academics is not an issue

May 24, 2012, 11:21 AM

Then why do conferences always bring this up with regard to expansion. Why didn't the ACC invite Louisville instead of Syracuse or Pitt? Why wouldn't the PAC 10 take Okie State when OU and OSU were a package deal? Why would the Big 10 take Vandy in a heartbeat but not UK or UT? Notre Dame has issues with the stem cell research going on in the Big 10 schools - I know this is a religous/Catholic thing, but what does it have to do with athletics?

Like it or not, the academics of other member institutions is a factor.

Swofford is nobody's fool, as the geniuses on Tnet have assumed. Sharing the bowl $$$ is not to bad unless you happen to win the ACC and go to the OB, which we have done once in the BCS era.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

of course, all of this could be an orchestrated power play

May 24, 2012, 11:07 AM [ in reply to J - I tend to agree. ACC will not go down without a fight. ]

by CU and FSU to leverage higher shares of the football revenue and perhaps lure a team like ND or PSU into the league.

Re: of course, all of this could be an orchestrated power play

May 24, 2012, 11:09 AM

What am i missing that PSU would even consider leaving the B1G and those multi-millions brought in by their network to come to the ACC?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

PSU was always a longshot, but the thought was that pitt may

May 24, 2012, 11:17 AM

have been brought in to provide them an instant rivalry in the ACC. and i think we can all agree that their stock is down right now.
