Amazon funneled all profits (that they ever would have made) into growing the company, building DCs, etc. Bezos didn't want to make a profit (that he would pay taxes on). He wanted everything fueling growth. But the simple business model - selling stuff - was well established. (And that isn't even counting the windfall that has been Amazon web services.
Twitter is nothing like that. There is little "there" there. They have users who are good for advertisers. They sell blue check marks. That's it. Their growth was funded by VC, but the underlying business model was always dubious. And the 'service' they provide to users is completely replaceable.
