The opposite of that..lets wait till summer

How often do you hear about people dying in the south from 90+ degree weather? I mean its only like that for about 3 months.

Have 90+ degree weather up north and the world is coming to an end.

Good point. Although if it's 90+ for an extended period of

time in the north, the world really is ending.

Yeah, a lot of people don't have AC up here

I can tell you that my first year living in Chicago, I didn't have AC in my apartment. It was pretty much unbearable being inside when it was above 80 degrees. I was a student, too, which meant I was home a lot during the day. Some of the other people I knew in grad student housing didn't have AC and weren't even allowed to have window units. I think the University of Chicago wanted them to die.

It gets pretty hot and humid in Chicago.***

Inaccurate. SC will cancel school for light wind and rain.***

Heck, in South Carolina, we'll cancel school for summer.***

I hear about this from the northerners that live around me

Jan 29, 2016, 4:27 PM

all the time, but the nuanced response is that we simply don't have the infrastructure in place to deal with any winter weather down here.

It would be fiscally irresponsible for the government of South Carolina to keep a fleet of snow plows and salt trucks sufficient to cover the state for the very rare winter weather event.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah, i think my 1 sq mile town in NJ has as many plows as

My gripe is that the call to cancel is always made so

Jan 29, 2016, 4:41 PM [ in reply to I hear about this from the northerners that live around me ]

very early, then nothing happens. People just need better contingency plans. Have them ready to go in August so you aren't scrambling the day before a possible weather event.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get that. I think the districts operate with that cautious

approach due to fears of litigation and because weather makeup days are already built into the schedule.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And my gripe is that when they do cancel school

Jan 29, 2016, 4:43 PM [ in reply to My gripe is that the call to cancel is always made so ]

then the Mrs. whoops and hollers and dances with joy over the fact that she doesn't have to go to school and then moans like a wounded animal on the day she has to make it up.
