Including Coach Brownell who says expectations are high. Video link:

I feel like I’m going crazy. A 16th year head coach is essentially fielding a team with no returning experience and players who have never played in a game together. And this isn’t after some perfectly aligned group of seniors led Clemson to new found glory. We got thumped in the first round of the tourney by a mid major who went home the next game. Has he recruited better? Sure, but they almost all keep leaving because portal players and veterans get all the minutes. I they only have to worry about one of those now. Is he gonna be able to balance minutes for the transfers and the RS-freshmen and freshmen? And win games? This has not been a strong suit in the past.

Yeah but this is a lot better roster.

This is almost like bringing Viktor, JZ, Girard and Jack Clark and almost multiplying is by 2.

I feel like you’re completely discounting team chemistry as a factor whatsoever. Part of any players success, at any level, is their supporting cast. We have no idea how these players will mesh.

About everytime I start to trust that CBB has turned the corner and I can start to defend him, he has another one of those games. He has a McNeese, or Morehead St, or Oakland and I just lose my faith that he has finally evolved.

That is my only worry, chemistry. This team will be stacked, but managing that much talent, egos, and gaining that chemistry will be interesting to see how it all gels.

This is just our own propaganda and says zero about the team that will be on the floor when play resumes. I'll keep hoping that this year's puzzle comes together as well as last year's mostly did, but only time will tell. With almost zero continuity from last year, it's hard to say.

We had a good ol couple of years and this team coming in will be our most talented since CBB has been coàch possibly. They may need a little time to gel, but I bet this team is better come tournament time than last year's.

You mean… they’ll be better prepared than the team that failed to even show up?

Wow. That sounds amazing.

I mean better across the board. The last one was injured, but even if they were not, this team will be better and more talented.

I agree. As good as Nick Davidson will be, Carter Welling might be one of the most underrated gets in the portal. Paul Strelow knows his stuff at TI Link:

You realize that the games that take place during the “time to gel” are the games where Brownell has historically played himself out of the tournament before January.

You are ready to declare this a better roster than the starting 5 of Hall, Tyson, Hunter, Schieff, and Galloway! That’s 2 NBA draftees, two 2 top 100 ranked recruits, 3 starters who had played 2 full years together, and a 4th who played with them one full year. Because that team missed the post season - not because of an unfair committee, but because of bad losses to two really bad teams in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Then an icing on the cake loss to Louisville.

Yes, but this team will be historically more talented, so the past is irrelevant for me. There is so much talented it will be interested to see how he puts the pieces together.

If the team is “historically more talented” then great. But you can’t really say that about a group of guys who have played no basketball together. You just don’t know. And, it’s another uncomfortable truth, players who come and go under Brownell usually do so with a lower ranking than they arrived. I’m not exactly ready to say that this group is going to be better than Elden Campbell and Dale Davis because On3 says so. And he’s never balanced pieces well. That’s why the high attrition. So is he gonna give the freshman real minutes at the risk of more losses or lose some of those highly ranked players who don’t want to stay behind transfers another year.

Just watching film and knowing the depth we will have and the depth or lack of on prior teams, I am extremely confident. You may still be wondering, but I am not. This will be the most well rounded deep team that CBB has ever had.

I like your optimism; however, I am a bit cautious declaring that this team is "historically more talented". I believe that our strength and depth will be in our frontcourt, but I am not as bullish on our backcourt. There is much that will depend on player development and how the team gels, which are more of an unknown going into this season than in the past 2-3 seasons. Statistically speaking, this unknown has tempered expectations of how we will perform (see attached) as this team is more projected to be like prior bubble teams for Clemson sitting around the 45-50 range of ranked teams. I do hope you are proven right though.

Strong statement. With that kind of conviction, this is a do or die season for Brownell.

That is a pretty cool video NCTigs but I must admit I am with Row86 a bit here. "Others" made me think of outside the Clemson program, not a typical highlight feel good video made by the Clemson Athletic Department. That would be the ultimate echo chamber hahaha

and if we feel confident we won’t take another step backwards next year. It’s year 16 dude, we shouldn’t be worried about a team of players who know nothing of each other and have never played together.

Honestly, do you really feel confident we can return to year 16 expectations as they should be?

There's far too much summertime fun to be had only to waste it on the wintry sadness that can be and often is CBB/the program.

I fear bad things in the coming season.
