Walhalla Oktoberfest

Lots of Germans settled there - the yearly festival is fun.
The food and bier are off, but they try.

It is great fun.

Back when 62 did the foot race there and won the 5K age group with just 20 minutes maybe because my friend (Clemson professor Gerry Carner) did the 10K.

Did it again at 78 and won in a slow time of 26. Raced my "main competitor" (and lost again) Judy Walls. I love being in a race with her.

I remember going to the 1st Octoberfest in Walhalla in 1979. Me and my running buddies Roger and Joe headed up there to partake in the festivities.

This weekend I'll be in Westminster hunting for Bigfoot.

+1 Tug for the Oktoberfest pics with the Tiger Cub by the Bantam Chef!
I live not far from Walhalla. Their Oktoberfest is a good time but you’re right, the food and beer are somewhat wanting. They charge a lot for the food and beverage to be not much for quality or variety.

Always wanted to go to the one in Helen, GA

They do pretty alright with fare, but not great. There is plenty of beer, junk shopping and beautiful landscape, but make no mistake, it's a tourist trap at its heart. Like a mini pigeon forge with a side of bratwurst.

We’re going to the Octoberfest in Columbia this evening after I play golf today. A Lutheran Church has been hosting it for a long time. They have authentic German foods and beers.I’ll be taking my stein with me, as usual.
