When you get away with having talented players cover up your pet underdog players in key situations of a game or season...
you tend to take it for granted.

The fact that we had so much overacheiving success....things and moves were being made behind closed doors. Some board of big wigs found away to make more money and elevate their conference even more. They also found that they could use the green light given by the courts to have these players in college to make money. They attacked Dabo's morals and beliefs with money that was offered to recruits that would have probably come to Clemson ....if everything was still in the old portal and recruiting format.

Things could have been prevented....but these people and these new rules took away and went against what Dabo stands for.

I think Dabo and Clemson tried to ride out the nil and portal until the courts ruled on direct payments from schools now $20.5m. In 2024, schools started bidding up players nil before the $20.5m court set school contribution. Therefore, Dabo refused to outbid and lost six recruits. So the will and money have been issues at Clemson.

Recruiting misses and weak coaching hires are drivers of this current mess. Basically, Clemson can’t get the talent and depth of roster players nor fill its needs via the portal. Coaches developing players and innovative Schemes are concerns too.

Dabo will need to change things dramatically to turn this program around. Is he willing and capable? We will see.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gradually, then suddenly.

I think when he took over as coach he had felt like people didn't believe in him and he had a fire inside to prove them wrong. This "Little Old Clemson" attitude filtered down to the players, so they played hard every game. He went out and tried to bring in the best coaches and best players because he knew he had to.

After winning two national championships in 2018 he started to feel like he'd proven himself, so he lost that attitude. He started hiring ex-Clemson coaches because he thought he could still win with them.

That talent, plus key assistants like Venables, are what brought us elite level success.

This isn’t to say that the principles and culture didn’t matter. They absolutely did. But not nearly as much as Dabo thought.

I've always seen Dabo Swinney as a salesman or CEO-style of head coach. He's never been that much of an X's and O's type of head coach. The success of his coaching tenure has depended on the quality of his coordinators and assistants.

He was the one who got Brent Venables to Clemson and was able to get him to say as long as he did.

After joining the coaching staff in 2003, he got our first 5-star recruit, RB CJ Spiller, to sign by 2006.

Overall, Dabo has always been a great salesman and marketer of the Clemson brand.

Do you think NIL, the TP and Revenue Sharing may have anything to do with Clemson’s lack of success. I can’t believe it is all Dabo and his staff.

Try to think back whe you were 18-21 years of age see making more money playing college football than an Engineer earns who is carries the responsibility in building and planning some of the most critical structures for use by mankind. Such as bridges, tall buildings, stadiums etc…

I have to believe that the chaos's and 💰💰💰 in college athletics for players has had a negative impact on the game and on many programs.

Nick Saban was correct in the recent article about how pay for player has had a negative impact on players and their performance. Yet successful coaches are being fired but college programs in financial chaos to.

It seems like some many fans are putting most of the blame on successful Head Coaches who have less control over their programs before the implementation of players getting over paid.

Saban who many think of as one of the best coaches in college football basically captioned schools about firing Head Coaches until the NCAA and legislators make significant changes to NIL, Revenue Sharing and the TP.

Saban questioned Penn State’s decision to fire Coach Franklin because of adversity anfter 11 successful seasons. Other schools who have fired Head Coaches may also regret their decisions. AD’s are under tremendous pressured by fans who do not have a grasp on what is happening in college athletics due to the amounts of money 💰 players are making,

When will college athletics become more stable. Or will greed, corruption and the demand for more 💰💰💰💰💰💰 lead to the demise of College Football that supports the athletic department. ???

I have noticed the majority on those posting negative comments about Dabo and players are IMO trolls or possibly staff from other programs who are trying to get Clemson fans worked up so we will run Dabo off.

I say to those cheapskates who want to constantly complain on Tigernet to put their money where their big mouth is and pay to be a legitimate member. If I can afford $79 per year so can you freeloaders who 😡😡😡

— People forget that college football is an extracurricular activity for college students. The sport exists for their benefit. If you’re going to pervert it into a multibillion dollar business with countless people making millions and being entertained off their efforts and bodies, they deserve their (substantial) cut too.

Coaches are just going to have to learn to deal with millionaire players with options.

I wonder if he's gotten into a phase of "not caring". <img border=">
If this is the case, then he should say, "I'm so sick of not caring." Then, do a Reset on the program.

I've been through "not caring" phases myself before when doing something ambitious that involved hitting a goal-range and staying within it over time. Then, I would have to sort of do restarts.

You see, whenever you do a given initiative that's goal-oriented with a number of specific goals, and you successfully arrive at your ultimate goal over time (e.g. matter of 6-18 months) - getting to the top of the metaphorical mountain; you have to continue to embrace the same habits that got you there. The longer you keep those habits, the more autonomous it seems. Unlike early on, special occasions and vacation periods can be easier to manage, and they are less likely to derail you off your course.

How you execute these above things and tactics day by day hinges on where your focus and concentration are invested in during a given period.
A lot of times, we want to strive for something, but we don't really want to do the more difficult stuff that it takes, and we don't adapt to what the environment asks of us. It's often our nature to take the easiest routes. As a result, we only reach our goals partially or the initiative eventually gets abandoned.

There may be periodic times during the initiative where there's a tendency to get distracted and into doing something else. For example, you have a big project due fairly soon, but you are frittering time away engaged in video games.
In my personal experience, mood and emotional states play a large role as well in being able to stay focused on goal-oriented initiatives where choices and decisions matter.
So, mood and emotional states factor in as well as far as staying on track with a given initiative.

In the case of Dabo, I think he still really wants to win, but it's a matter of adapting to what this sport's environment asks of him along with beginning to do the more difficult things in the context of it.

Let's also use a car repair analogy (as pertaining to fixing this Clemson program):
So, you have a car you need to fix, but it feels like drudgery to have to get under it to do some of the fixes needed, so what would you do?

-Do you go to a bargain parts store and buy the cheapest parts, and then do a rushed job just so you can get the car running again in some capacity?

OR

-Do you go to a reputable parts store and buy high quality parts, and then go back and get everything organized neatly, use the proper tools, and do everything according to a professional mechanics manual; then, as a result, the car runs the best it has in a long while?
