I read read that and wonder if he got the tapes mixed up

DW was the most competent QBs I've ever watched. His anticipation, progression, decision making and I'd argue accuracy were his strengths. I think they gave Hoge the coke stoudt tape. No offense Cole but Deshaun was pretty dang and far better than any other QB this season. The only kid close to him was the kid from the real USC. Other than that he was better than LJ and the rest.

The only mistake that was made, is that guy made it, he was letting the country find out that he didn't know a thing about DW4, or college FB as a matter of fact. When idiots like that starts throwing stones at a player like DW4, they really should do their homework, bc he just proved that he didn't have a clue of who DW4 really was. Nothing he said could be attached to DeShaun Watson in any kind of a way. Nothing!!!

Sorry Merl, but never were the brightest candle on the cake. I really fail to get any of his analogies, this makes him look totally uneducated(I chose that over stupid) to the game of football. Bradshaw said in his early days that this guy had a high FB IQ---not a regular high IQ, but football, yes. I always wondered what he meant by that --now I have an ideal--on the field maybe.

A summary for those who don't read the entire article:
Look at me, look at me, pay me attention, I'm an ESPN analyst and no one cares what I think, so I'm gonna say some outrageous junk so that you'll LOOK AT ME!

That idiot Hoge looked like a pimp today in his bright pink tie. He reminds me of a hockey guy, without the greased back hair an Canadian accent. He called the QB class "ugly" and said none of them deserve a first round pick. I can't wait for DW4 to make him look stupid.

Who cares what a 10th round 261 pick has to say about QB's. A 10th round RB he must have suxed pretty bad. He is now and was almost Mr. irrelevant in that draft.

Can they please stop with this "spread" crap and blaming everything on it? NEWSFLASH!!!!! the spread has consumed the nfl. They make it sound design like Payton Manning and guys like him never locked in our one receiver. This time of evaluation is when I really start to question people on tv. Incredible amount of that watson looks off the wr, but they wanna only concentrate on when he didn't?......cmon man!

Agreed. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady ran/run more spread offense than "traditional" offense. More quarterbacks operate out of the shotgun and make pre-snap reads. Peyton Manning sat in shotgun and read the defense, put his players in motion, called the protection, hiked the ball and threw it. Tom Brady does the same thing. These guys know where they're going before they even snap the ball and sometimes make mistakes but are smart enough to be right most of the time.
Deshaun always says he's not perfect but he's a winner. The NFL game has evolved but these "experts" don't want to adapt. They've completely downplayed the fact he absolutely torched the Alabama Pro Bowl defense twice. ESPN can't get over the pain of being wrong.

I'm guessing Hodge only reviewed the Pitt game, where Watson did struggle in the red zone. But the full body of work should count for something, no?

If you read the news today, ESPN is laying off many of their TV and radio analysts. Just go crazy and maybe they keep you?
There were times that Watson locked on to a receiver and threw the ball in good coverage. Yes, it did end up in a interception sometimes. Everybody needs some work.

Hearing that crap infuriates me.....I can't imagine how DW4s teammates must feel.
I am sick of people not doing their homework and really watching what DW4 is capable of.

honestly I don't know what these guys are watching. the back shoulder throw and the fade are 2 of the toughest passes in football and deshaun throws them better than anyone I've ever seen. his deep ball was a little off this year but I think it's because he bulked up and needed to recalibrate. he's a great passer and u can't wait to see him prove these punks wrong

Watsons RZ issue isn't accuracy related, its overconfidence
Mar 8, 2017, 8:45 AM
|
|
sometime its better to just throw it away and fight another play. He will force the ball into narrow openings. But from the very first TD throw he made, we knew accuracy isn't the issue.
The only other knock I would say on DWs passing is that he tends to go to the back shoulder throw too often. Thats just a comfort thing with his WRs though. He's always had that option because our WRs tend to be taller but not quite the burners that get seperation.
And every QB that has ever transitioned to the NFL has to learn the difference between what is open in the NFL vs what is open in college.

flurry of others? He had two picked in the Pitt game, one was a great play by the defender then other was his only bone head one there at the end. The other red zone pick was against GT but that was b/c MWilliams read the route wrong and he went outside when he should have went inside. So thats on MW. The other 200 plays he was pretty efficient i thought.

The GT one and the 2 against Pitt. He also had 1 against Louisville and I think there was another against either Troy or NCSU.
I'm not counting other redzone INTs but those are the ones that I can think of where they had a pick in the endzone.

Hodge has no clue. It IS obvious that he did not see WATSON play. His workout at the combine was unbelievably accurate with a gun for an arm. By the way , he picked against Clemson in the playoffs.

Where do these things run? They must need to fill daytime airtime for 24/7 sportsnews. I would never have seen this clip if not for Tigernet.
