Exactly what is a Bandwagon fan? And why are they bad?
Is a band wagon fan just someone who has jumped on in the past 7 or 8 years since we've gone to the playoffs?
Is this bad? If so I've done some bad things. I've taken people to Clemson games over the years in hopes they will convert and become a tiger. I figured the more the merrier. If we have 82,000 fans at a game....why not 85,000?
Or is a Bandwagon fan someone who complains when they don't agree with some things about the direction of the program or questions some of Dabo's moves. If that's a Bandwagon fan then I guess I'm guilty because I question everything while still supporting the staff.
Btw I have been a Clemson fan since the 5th grade ..since Charlie Pell was the head coach. That's a long time to be a Bandwagon fan.
And honestly I'm just curious cause I keep seeing and hearing this tern thrown around.

that kind of petty elitism gets used by some as the last refuge in lieu of actual arguments. Not donating to this website says exactly nothing about whether one is a loyal/real or bandwagon fan of Clemson.

I’ve always viewed bandwagon fans as newbies who show up when a team is successful, and then disappear when the bright lights start to get dim.
Clemson’s bandwagon fans have not departed yet; they just complain excessively and always vent their anger at the highest profile players and the coach(es).
It is a sure sign of an ignorant fan if the vast majority of their unhappiness is directed to selected players and the idiot coaches who insist upon playing those players.
Clemson is hardly unique with respect to the bandwagon ignoramus; UGA, Auburn, S.Carolina, FSU etc. all have tens of thousands of them. They are kind of like chiggers.

You don't have the circle R like some of these dip$##### mentioned so you must be a bandwagon fan yourself!

Treasure investing in Clemson. It is our family and our home. We take it seriously and we reserve the right to call ######## when things are not being done to put Clemson above the rest. Without critical thinking and criticism, positive change seldom occurs. But we avid, lifelong fans are up to the challenge and won’t let Clemson down.

If you seriously don’t know, you might be one of the people in question. I was at CU when Pell was coach, so your ancient status may be prematurely appropriated - I’m not THAT old. Plus, about the same % of people are idiots, regardless of age. The whole “I’m a lifer, BUT reserve the right to whine and cry should we ever lose a game…” schtick is really worn out on here. I’ve heard all I need to about you and all the other disaffected people’s rights. If you continuously whine and moan about decisions made by professionals with unparalleled records of success, you may or may not be a bandwagon fan - you may just be a sorry, immature, obnoxious or ignorant person. My nephew was a student during these glorious years and we joke that he may not survive an eight win season. But HE is not a bw, he is just young. For a GenZ, he hardly complains at all. He’s not a whiner. Try to be more like the people that don’t whine about Dabo and you’ll do just fine. Whining never helps. Never. You should know this at your age.

no I'm just kidding! Yeah, there are some really loose applications of that term "bandwagon." Some people use it as a quick and easy (and poorly thought-out) pejorative against anyone who dares to say anything meaningfully critical (beyond "no one's perfect," "everyone makes mistakes," etc). But the reason that criticism sometimes sticks is b/c there really is an actual (legitimate) negative connotation of the term. There are folks that want to be attached to a winner more so than they really just have affection and attachment the school and/or team. I grew up in the 80's and 90's and I remember a whole plethora of folks back then would wear Miami or ND hats (and I didn't live near either of those schools), just b/c they were doing well, and so by extension they became fashionable. Occasionally you'd fine someone who had a real connection - their dad went to Notre Dame or their brother went to Miami, or whatever, but typically it was just bandwagon folk adorning themselves w/ the flavor of the moment.
I don't suppose there's anything objectively "bad" about those types. They can do what they wish, I suppose . . . pull for a team, quit pulling for them, become disinterested, or whatever, whenever they wish, I suppose. No real skin off anyone's noses. That said, when there is an occasion to notice or point out the fleeting nature of their "loyalty," I don't suppose they deserve much defending either.

Bandwagon fans do not attend games or openly wear Clemson apparel when the team has a losing record.
