Hill not being full

Sep 29, 2022, 10:25 AM

I am a current student and want to adress the issue of the hill. Where some of the responsibility falls on us students as many want to drink at the tailgate as long as they can and then rush in at the last minuet, the university is simply not helping at all. In order to gain access to the hill, you now must scan in the entrance gate, and then again at the hill. They have 2 people scanning students in, and now putting a wrist band on each individual student. I got to the furman game an hour and a half early to get a good spot on the hill and still had to wait 20 minuets outside the hill just to get a wrist band and gain access. When the game was about to start students were trying to get on the hill but could not because of how long the line was and how slow the people scanning were. So students resotred to jumping the fence to get onto the hill because they had been waiting for 30 minuets to get on and were missing the game. When people started jumping the fence the event people called the cops and they escorted many studetns out of the game. In order to solve this problem, clemson needs to make the process easier to get onto the hill and we don't need to wait 30 minuets just to get on the hill once we are already inside the stadium. I understand that some of the blame falls on us students, but the university also needs to make drastic changes if they ever want the hill to be full again for the start of a game.

I saw students at Furman game actually going under the fence. This is a crazy process and cannot believe people can't put their heads together to get this fixed.

I am going to cut and paste your input and send to Board Member Nicky McCarter. Nicky tends to get things done when brought to his attention. This has gone on too long and I think everyone just assumes it will get fixed... and it doesn't

But do me a favor, yal cutting the tailgating a little short if you have to saturday. ABC is doing a UGA type special on running down the Hill and we need it full ....and maybe bring in some ballons.

I am always there at least an hour beforehand with my group of friends, we always go to the left side of the hill to try and make it look more full. Hopefully with the weather being messy it will make students more likely to get there early since the tailgating will not be the best

my email to Clemson leaders

Sep 29, 2022, 11:30 AM [ in reply to thank you for posting ]

Gentlemen:

The below email was posted by a student on Tigernet. He readily admits some of the students are at fault for late arrivals. However, we know how college kids are and even most of the other fans; they wait until the last minute. The process needs to take that into account. The loss of the ballons is bad enough, but the situation on the Hill is destroying one of the greatest traditions in college football. I think everyone just keeps assuming it will get fixed and it does not. I know there are issues with fire marshal, etc. but still we can do better.

Surely a plan can be put in place to fix this.

Thanks for all you all do for Clemson.

Outstanding !!!! Thank you. Would be awesome if the students snuck in a few balloons. DV would go nuts... It will anyway but that would be exciting. I'm jacked. Maybe moreso than our last CFP game. Epic.

I didn't write the post to show off my writing skills. I know they aren't very good. Was justy trying to draw some attention to a problem. That's all

How were you accepted at Clemson with those
spelling, punctuation and grammar skills? Standards must really be slipping these days. In my day you would have failed English 101.

It’s the thought that counts. She sounds like someone who is trying to fix a problem instead of just bellyaching about it. Glad she is there.

If it was written on a cell phone it wasn't an infraction...

Sep 29, 2022, 11:42 AM [ in reply to Re: I hope you proofread your papers better than this ]

which should be criticized by anyone who has used a cell to post. Imo, the criticism was a little harsh. I know folks use spelling to evaluate intelligence but that is not a dependable measure.

I learned to read at the lap of my great grandmother, 66 years ago, who was born in the 1880s. I remember sitting on the steps of the back porch and looking at words to memorize them but she was not versed in phonics. As my schooling continues I memorized the spelling of words to be successful passing spelling test and just got by.

I had to work to memorize words in order to write papers in college. I enrolled in Clemson's Art and Arch college, majored in Building Science, as called back in the day, and graduated 3 years later. Freestyle, a word processing program saved my bacon. Well, that and my beautiful wife who was masterful at spelling.

I confess, I read the op without noticing a misspelling of the word minute. That's because I read sentences all at once which forms a picture of the concept in my mind. That allows me to read much quicker than otherwise and only degrades my comprehension by 10-20%. The worst part of that is that it corrupts my proof reading.

I might give the OP a B for lack of white space but I would not punish for the spelling error if I graded the post. Imo the comment on spelling was out of order and a certain distraction from the theme of the post. I don't give Tigers TDs, elsewise...

Men at 25 play football. Men at 40 play tennis. Men at 60 play golf. Have you noticed as men get older their balls get smaller.

Thank you 261 and hopefully this will be POTD. Who knew. Can't thank the student enough for posting it. Crazy, and no reason it can't be resolved immediately. Wristbands... Nutty when you have to scan twice. To he(( with the fire marshal.

And to the student. Congratulations for getting into Clemson and for choosing Clemson. Thank you for attending the games. When you get older, you'll be posting the good ole days like some of us.

What a tone-deaf reply. Arriving an hour and a half early for a football game isn't enough? You don't even have to be that early to get on a plane.

This post clearly outlines that the screening process is the bottleneck, and thankfully we've got some proactive folks here that are getting this feedback into the right hands.

Re: And, maybe y’all should arrive earlier.***

We have folks teaching doctorate level classes in Human Factors - basically engineering time studies for efficiency. Surely, we can streamline the process - the wristband is crazy its not like you are entering a bar underage.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: And, maybe y’all should arrive earlier.***

Sep 29, 2022, 1:40 PM

They have already been scanned 1 time, put the wristband on then and the he77 with the 2nd time. That is absolutely ridiculous. Tell the fire marshal to take a hike. For God’s sake they are sitting on a hill.

I honestly believe that the Athletic Department has plans to add seats there only leaving a small strip of grass for the players. They will sell these seats for big $$$ like the WEZ.
The Athletic Department has been tone deaf to this topic for 4-5 years. Even Dabo addressed it and nothing was done about it.
I have sent numerous messages myself and not one reply…
