What people do not mention in the Texas game is the horrible clipping call that negated a pix-6. Had that call been overturned, as it should have been, then late in the game Clemson is tied and a different outcome is possible. I like having someone pulling back. We do have a tough schedule. We have many "losable" games, and we will get everyone's best shot. I think we can go undefeated, but I like having others pick against us.

Yes, totally agree and will add that Sammy Brown was bear hugged on the first Texas TD run on fourth down. That likely gets downgraded to a FG. Sammy was also bear hugged again later in a long run that led to a Texas TD. That drive might have failed. Along with the bad call on the pick six, that's -17 points. It was not even close to a fairly refereed game.

I'm sorry but you are the last person who can talk about mental gymnastics. Brad Brownell could lose every game this year and you would spin it to look like he did something great.

At least our basketball team actually wins big games and punches above its weight class. Conversely, football is 0-5 in its last five games against top 5 teams, and 0-3 in its last 3 SEC games. Perhaps you should wait until our football team starts playing like a top team again before derailing a football thread in a pathetic attempt to discredit another CLEMSON team.

Dabo has 9 ACC championship, has appeared in 4 national finals, and won 2 national championships. Brownell has none of those. In the preceding 15 seasons before they each became full-time head coach, football finished ranked 4 times and basketball finished ranked 3 times. Basketball’s 14th place finish under Purnell was higher than any Clemson football team finish since 1990. So much for all the natural advantages of our basketball program. By any meaningful metric, basketball does not “win big games” or “punch above its weight class” relative to our football program. That’s a statement that simply demonstrates your contempt for Clemson. Something you can’t avoid even as you talk out the other side of your mouth and pretend you’re “excited” about this season.

If this statement came from a rationale-based, logical thinker, it would have merit. I actually agree with you to an extent. Blown calls on both sides, for sure. More blown against us, but still there were errors the other way as well.
But if this were basketball, you’d have 11,000 excuses and leaps of faith that make Jim Jones followers look sane.
Your biases are well known. Any “ability” to be rational about our football team is far overshadowed by your inability to get thine nose out of BB’s keister.

It was a poor performance and we deserved to lose. Period.
I can also get over that loss since I can point to some awesome performances and wins by our basketball team last year. We beat Kentucky, Duke, and UNC, and set a program record for wins. That eases the sting.
Unfortunately, I can’t do that for last year’s football team. What did we do to ease the pain of a double digit loss to Texas in the postseason? We lost to Georgia by 31 in an opener we were not prepared for, lost to the Coots, lost to Louisville, and played inconsistently all year. Our best win was against an overrated SMU team, and even that win wasn’t all our doing.
Our football program can’t claim be elite when it has been clear the last four years that we pad our win totals against teams that care way less than we do about football, and mostly lose to teams that care as much as we do about football. Hopefully this year we will turn the tide.

in the three national championships and umpteen ACC championships when the football team has a "down" year ("Down" meaning not winning the natty.)
I wish I could do same when the basketball team shats the bed every.single.season. But there isn't. Because CBB/the basketball team shat the bed every.single.season.
It's really a vicious cycle, is what it is.

I don’t camp out on here, running multiple businesses is tough, so sorry for the tardiness.
I can tell you, without any doubt whatsoever, any objective human can say that the McNeese St loss was waaaaay more humiliating than the Texas loss in FB. As for lessening the sting, I’d say getting rid of the problem on defense (Wes), having an unbelievably young team make it to the Texas game is a bit more impressive than making it into the bball tourney and completely folding.
Haven try you said a dozen times that in bball losses to inferior teams happens a good bit? If so, let’s chalk up 1.5 of those 3 good wins to that. Especially seeing how the team just collapsed down the line.
So, no, getting lucky and the ball bouncing out way in numerous games last year in bball doesn’t take the sting out of that McNeese loss. At all. Seeing a super young team compete despite being handcuffed by an idiot coaching the d gives hope for this year. Where is the hope for bball? In the transfers that we will POSSIBLY love for one year? It’s hard to even remember names year to year.
Haven’t been elite in football for a while. I’ve beat the internal hires drum ad nauseum. Seems that is remedied, for now.
To close: for years you’ve used the $ and support excuse for Brownell’s reason for underperforming. If it’s all about dollars, Clemson should’ve been beaten by 70 vs Texas. That’s a fact.

Him being a Miami Hurricane football fan doesn't surprise me being down on Clemson. Him later working with the football team eventually led him to ESPN radio. Wouldn't say he is a football guru.
Reminds me of a heavier "Finebomb"
Sounds like he is Jealous of Clemson
We will see what turns out when the dust settles on the season.

Of our 12 regular season games, 9 are against teams that place nowhere near the emphasis we do on football. We are way more talented and should absolutely beat teams like Boston College, Duke, Furman, Troy, Syracuse, etc.
That leaves LSU, Florida State, and South Carolina.
Even if we go 1-2 in these games, we are still 10-2.
We can also go 2-1 against the three real teams on our schedule, lose a game we shouldn’t, and finish with 10 wins.

We don't know what we don't know and LSU doesn't know what a don't know so buckle up the chin straps for an epic battle. Since the game is not a conference game it is not a must win for either team but for national perception, it really is. There should not one person who makes the mistake of thinking this will be anything but a 60 minute slugfest.

Well we didn't look great at times last season, even on offense, so I can kinda see where people want to see us do it before they totally get on board. Yes we did acquit ourselves pretty well against Texas but we also beat SMU on a miracle FG, barely beat a meh Pitt team on a 50 yd QB scramble and had another ugly win against Va Tech. Sandwiched among those games was a loss to SC and the Citadel running for 300 yds against us. So if you look at the second half of our season last year there are a lot of reasons to doubt we are suddenly gonna be unstoppable this year.

He isn't wrong about last year.

While winning the ACC and making the CFP are nice accomplishments last year, we were clearly not one of the best teams in the country. As he mentioned, we were blown out by Georgia, lost to SC, lost to Louisville, and probably should have lost to both Pitt and SMU. We didn't do anything last year to suggest that we were an elite team, or that we were poised this year to be dramatically better.
We shouldn't be beating our chests for "only" losing to Texas by 14. If we want to be elite, we need to win those games or at least keep it close. We didn't.
Any predictions for us to be national championship contenders require that we be significantly better this year. Can that happen? It sure can. I believe that our defense will be a lot better. I expect Cade to have even better rapport with his receivers. Our line should be a strength. But there are some concerns too. Do we have the talent to compete with top 5 teams? Do we have the poise to not make critical errors during crunch time? Do we have the coaching to develop our players and help them get better?
Time will tell. I haven't read the comments yet, but when I do I anticipate that they will mostly be critical of this guy and of ESPN, with statements about how we are being disrespected and how awesome we will be. I hope that's true, but you can't blame people for being hesitant to buy into the hype. It's been half a decade since we've met preseason expectations. Here's to this year being different.

"He isn't wrong." It's the emasculated, glass-jawed version of "He's absolutely right."
In other words, stop back-pedaling. Lean in to that Eeyore-like disposition of yours. You'll be happier! We'll be happier! Brad will be happier!

Lol yeah this guy is lost. Saying South Carolina is going to get more than 7.5 wins easily when they look like an 8-4 win team AT BEST... And Clemson isn't losing 3 regular season games. It just isn't happening... unless the defense completely comes out flat again in which case it might be ok in the end because we can bring Venables back after he gets fired.

That team doesn't exist and this year's team isn't set yet. These guys have opinions and spout nonsense to justify their paycheck. Ms. Cleo had more credibility.

schedule. BC, GT, SMU, Louisville...he's almost acting like schools in the ACC play football (probably the REAL reason he got fired...ha ha). Of course Top 10 LSU and Top 15 SC. It's a tough schedule.
2) He's not wrong. We have a lot of questions that need answering...RB, run D, etc.
Gotta be tired of the rat poison by now. Time for some expert doubt. Time for some "We have to prove 'em wrong."

I know we SHOULD be better this year but we have had some inconsistencies even on offense in recent years, including injuries, which probably happens at some point again .. it's football.
I expect us to go compete for a national title but we have a lot to prove and it starts against LSU.

Here we go again........another jock sniffing, frustrated wanna be athlete that is nothing but a keyboard goofball. Why would anyone in their right mind pay attention to this Pillsbury Dough Boy, wtih a head that resembles a que ball and glasses thick as coke bottles? Never played 1 down of organized athletics just sits on a keyboard and BLAH,BLAH, BLAH. Him, Paul Finebaum, Stephen A, Colin Cowherd, Nick Wright, Skip Bayless are a bunch of ###### bags who need to #### on sports related matters. On August 30th all questions will be answered. GO TIGER!!! BEAT LSU!!!

Im not really a fan of this dweeb. He's nothing more than a degenerate gambler and less charismatic modern day version of Jimmy The Greek. Not saying hes not correct on a few things, but he never really gives us any credit

The key word is "FORMER" ESPN analyst. If he was actually good or unique at his job he wouldn't be a "former" analyst. As it stands his opinion carries no more weight than mine or yours.

agree for the most part with with the 2024 Fallica retrospective put forward

but my agreement with him ends there
I think Schwartz has the better take/perspecitve. We have not only many returners but returners with talent..many with NFL talent.
Skill on offense. O-Line appears to be one of the better ones in recent memory (though we often hear that and ….well, we will see).
Stertong d efense - especially that front lone - scary.
Haven’t paid as much attention in 2025 so far because of work and the rest of real life - so my concern is depth. Maybe we have it. Maybe not.
I’ll hang up and listen.

He picked games against the spread on ESPN College Gameday. Always well below .500. It’s good he’s pumping the brakes on us.
