With the greatest election stunner in my lifetime

Nov 10, 2016, 8:50 AM

many moderate republicans are all ready trying to influence Donald Trump's positions hoping he will fall in line with their beliefs. This tells me some of our so called republicans still don't get it.

We want change, we are tired of doing things their way. Since many of them road to Washington on President Elect Trump's coat tails they should re think their positions and beliefs.

And If Hillary loves America as much as she indicated in her concession speech she will address all these people trying to use fear tactics that President Trump is planning on using gas chambers etc to eliminate the LGBT groups and other such groups that were devastated when hillary lost the election.

I believe for the first time we truly have Washington outsiders in our highest 2 offices. What I mean is they are not beholden to special interest. They are accountable to every American.

Pence is not an outsider.

Nov 10, 2016, 8:53 AM

My hope is that Trump's lack of ideology and expressed contempt for the Right and Left wings will lead to some positives.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

exactly, after 12 years in Congress

Nov 10, 2016, 10:13 AM

how can Pence be considered an outsider?

Nov 10, 2016, 8:57 AM

Have you stopped for a minute to think of the damage Trump could do to this country if largely left unchecked? I'm glad there are at least a few republicans willing to stick to their guns...and hope there are enough in the Senate to prevent anything too silly. If when Trump leaves office in four years we don't have a wall, gays/lesbians are still allowed to marry, we aren't at war with a sovereign country, and abortion is still legal, I will breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Nov 10, 2016, 9:06 AM

Well, I guess if you consider us on different 'sides' then that's your decision...not mine. All I am saying is that ANY POTUS left unchecked would be dangerous...but especially this one. He's not used to compromise, so I imagine he will do anything to get his way. I am just glad there will be people to stand in his way WHEN it makes sense to. He may have some good ideas and I will give him a chance...but those things I listed are not negotiable.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My apologies...

Nov 10, 2016, 9:23 AM

I agree that the POTUS needs to be kept in check.

I got an idea. I did not vote for Obama in 2007, but I did give him the benefit of the doubt after being highly critical throughout the campaign. Why don't we wait and see what happens next year before freaking out?

Obama turned out to be pretty much what I expected as you may be right about Trump.

"He's not used to compromise"

Nov 10, 2016, 9:25 AM [ in reply to Re: now I'm starting to see what my side looked like in 2008*** ]

Why would you say that?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: "He's not used to compromise"

Nov 10, 2016, 9:32 AM

Maybe unfair on my part...I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and we will see what happens. If he can actually bring both sides together and do some good for the country then his time in office will be a huge success.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this is the opposite of how I have heard him described

Nov 10, 2016, 9:34 AM [ in reply to Re: now I'm starting to see what my side looked like in 2008*** ]

Trump is a businessman. He makes deals for a living. He is a master at give-and-take. I heard some TV guys last night saying that they expect Trump to surprise the Washington establishment with his willingness to compromise on issues, because that's how he has gone through life.

“My style of deal-making is quite simple and straightforward. I aim very high, and then I just keep pushing and pushing and pushing to get what I’m after. Sometimes I settle for less than I sought, but in most cases I still end up with what I want.”

100% Agree with you on that one. Really just wondering how long he'll be in office before he throws his first temper tantrum.

Re: With the greatest election stunner in my lifetime

Nov 10, 2016, 9:16 AM

HA! To be fair...I bet a lot of Presidents throw tantrums behind closed doors. If he is frustrated a good bit of the time then that tells me our government is working the way it should. No single branch should get their way all of the time.

Nov 10, 2016, 9:27 AM [ in reply to Re: With the greatest election stunner in my lifetime ]

Yours is a typical response when some indicates they what real change. I am not advocating violence or that Trump not work with all members of congress. And you indicate my beliefs are dangerous because they are not in line with yours. I don't hate any group but it does not mean I have to support them. I voted for Trump because I want real change not superficial change or change for the benefit of the minority over the majority. You have condemned Donald Trump before he has completed his first day in the WH.

I have Bill Clinton and Obama my support once they won but then changed my support as they began putting their policies in place. You have that same right. Like it or not Trump is going to be our next President.

Re: With the greatest election stunner in my lifetime

I think many are just nervous about what this 'change' may entail. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he can bring about some real change that benefits all Americans. If he can do this while not allowing congress to strip away the rights of Americans, then I will call his time in office a success.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know.

Nov 10, 2016, 9:01 AM

Trump received less votes than Romney. I'm not sure that other candidates "road" his coattails or that he's received any mandate that everyone else must fall in line and do what he says. He's still got to work with others, if he doesn't then his presidency will be a disaster.

Yeah if he doesn't work with dems it will be bad....

Successful leaders earn the trust of those who oppose him

or those that oppose him come out and say their ultimate goal is that their opponent is a one term President. Love how there is a different set of rules now.

Re: Same set of rules apparently, just applied by different side***

Nov 10, 2016, 9:11 AM

That's not the expectation. We are supposed to just all fall in line and unite around this guy. Republicans came out right after the election talking about how they wouldn't do anything with Obama and they'd make sure he would be a one term President.

At least the Dems in office are coming out trying to find something to work on with Trump. Just as usual...the adults have to compromise while the whiny children in office stomp their feet.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't expect that...

Nov 10, 2016, 9:27 AM

feel free to fret as much as you want

Expect what? The dems are going to be adults and work for the country. Unlike the obstructionist Republicans the last 8 years.

a whole? Same can be said now.

Cool heads will wait and see what happens.

If the Dems obstruct on jobs, economy, working class, etc.

They will only damage themselves in future elections.

Some of Trump's promises are appealing.

Nov 10, 2016, 10:15 AM [ in reply to I don't know. ]

Some, such as prosecuting Hillary and draining the swamp, are just political rhetoric intended to slander the opponent.

After all the radical statements of the early campaign it's kinda hard to imagine how much of a negotiator Trump could be. He didn't close all those billions in deals by behaving like a bull in a china shop.
