What is Dabo really trying to accomplish?

Dabo not “buying” players is the equivalent of someone refusing to pay anything above 1995 house prices for a new house. It’s not brave or admirable, it’s a stubborn, foolish endeavor.
I don’t know what the Dabo cultists believe he will achieve with his ego trip other than driving our program into the ground.
Do you honestly think one day everyone, the courts, the NCAA, the state and federal legislatures, and the other teams, are just going to wake up one day and say “Dabo’s right, let’s reset to 2010 rules!” It’s baffling what anyone thinks this course of action is going to accomplish
Just because he needs to buy players and use the portal as allowed by the current rules doesn’t mean he still can’t develop young men into leaders a better football players.
Sure, graduation rate is going to take a hit because of transfers out, but so what? He can still give his best effort to them while they are here for as long as they are here. Just because that’s less time than it used to be isn’t a reason to become a martyr for a lost cause and essentially give up by saying we can show him the $60m door whenever we want

Agree 100%. He was hired to win football games. Everything else, as admirable as it may be, is secondary. Win and then you can pretty much do what you want. Lose too much and you lose your position to influence others.

It’s not really clear, he’s a very competitive guy but he seems set on winning”his way with his guys” Can he substantially change that? Can he admit defeat?

It started to catch up to him and bite him a few years ago. If a weird looking rash shows up on your body.... you might want to go and get that looked at before it gets worse. Dabo didn't want to do that. He has to realize he can't cure it himself doing in-home remedies and unfortunately spending money that we don't have. Got to find that happy medium... and the rest will expose itself. Smaller programs with less money need help from the NCAA to regulate the entire landscape of college football or they will implode before our eyes. Look at what is happening to us.....and it will continue to do so if we don't get some help.

Football history.
Does he need to change? Sure. Has he been reluctant? Sure. Are fans frustrated from it? Sure. Will he change? Probably. Is this the end of Clemson Football success? Not likely.
HTH.

Yea, I think that's what we've got to do.

Sure beats all these pansies whining insistently. I mean, people here are anointing Trotsky as some sort of prognosticator because he started whining about it a few years ago, lol. It's like watching a movie everyone has already seen and that one insecure guy that can't keep from telling you what's about to happen. 🙄

I suspect he has surrounded himself with people who share his world view or something like it and has denied the program the very best Coaches and Players available.

“ to buy players and use the portal as allowed by the current rules”
Current rules do not allow pay for play recruiting or tampering in the portal. Dabo is paying his players and is using the portal. He draws the line at breaking rules and it puts him at a disadvantage.
Saying “Within the rules I can’t promise you money upfront but my starting RB is making $500k” doesn’t appeal to all recruits because other schools blatantly promise money. Revenue sharing helps but you still can’t recruit with NIL dollars.
The portal is great but 5* players don’t enter the portal without tampering taking place to secure a landing spot. Dabo will not land a player with a “do not contact tag”
Most here believe clemson is different and Dabo exemplifies that. Oversimplifying the narrative doesn’t do either justice. The way back may not be Dabo’s 2015 approach but it will still take someone who understands Clemson because we are not a huge school with over 300k living alumni.

So your first post should have said “why won’t Dabo break the rules like everyone else”

It’s an unenforceable gray area, sorry but I’d rather be an elite program playing the same game as everyone else than a program who has its last game in November but wins some sort of Boy Scout merit badge

You say that, but what drew elite talent to Dabo's program

always had to do with his being "different" than those schools. You can't have it both ways, not anymore.
I actually appreciate what he built including grad rate, growing men, loyalty, etc. Personally, I'm much less interested in it all given it's no longer possible for a program to care about both.

Well some of us are still interested in it, and interested in being successful. Seems like you’re content just shutting down the program and watching reruns from 2015-2020

Do better. If you can't handle opposition, find some safe space.
No Clemson fan is satisfied with the current state of the program.
