I urged and was sure he would settle last summer. It seemed so obvious to me that was the best course of action.
I'm not criticizing him for settling now but I'm not applauding either because he's a year late and got totally owned by Tony Buzbee and his clients. Crying "Uncle" so late in the game is complete humiliation.
In Deshaun's upcoming prepared statement, I'm sure he's going to say this happened to spare his family, the Browns and fans from more hardship. HAH!

It seems Deshaun's attorney must not be much of one. It agitates me little, and I hate it for Deshaun. It seems he could have been better served, because as you said Deshaun's side got owned in the court of public opinion.

I'm sure the attorney told him to settle last year when it was cheap.
The client makes the final decision.

If it really wasn't about the money (which I firmly believe to be the case with most of the plaintiffs), the women wouldn't be settling either.

I live in Houston. Rusty Hardin has been around forever and has a very good track record as a defense attorney. His main job is to protect Deshaun from criminal charges. I think he knew well ahead of time each and every charge would be a "no" bill from the grand jury. Technically, he did his job well in advising Deshaun.
However, on the PR side, Rusty has completely lost his touch. He was a disaster. Maybe old age has caught up to him.

after the 22 women stepped forward was to go out an interview an additional 18 women who said they had also massaged Deshaun and he didn't solicit them...Just a complete #### move, because that's when the general public stopped and asked, "who needs 40 massage therapists?"

I’d say this is best play. Now both sides leave with a happy ending

Settling absolutely does not imply guilt...

In many cases, it's the more prudent course of action to minimize the ongoing/protracted aggravation and stress, and may get him back on the field sooner which is the priority. If he says the decision was based largely on a desire to spare his family, the Browns and fans from more hardship, there's probably some element of truth to that.

Settling at any point and time is/was a mistake. There are no pending criminal charges. You can't pay them to keep quiet, because they already went public. There simply is/was no benefit for Watson to settle. It is a mistake.

Whether it was far from over is irrelevant. This settlement doesn't solve any of Watson's current problems. It doesn't change possible suspensions by the league. It didn't save him money. It doesn't fix his public image. It doesn't affect criminal charges. There is no real benefit.
