why wouldn't you just hold that spot for a transfer instead of a mid-major type

high school prospect? Not saying this player is a for sure no-go but I'd rather you scour a current player that is showing out for a mid-major program. At least he would have experience and be ready to play if needed. Alot of high school prospects need alot of time to mature before they're viable. I'm guessing its money that is the issue. To pull a current player you'd have to offer more to get them to jump. I get the HS 4star being a valid sign but just some 2 or 3 star just to fill a spot is probably a waste.

Unbelievable and some think things are going to get better with this program and coaching staff and buy into the BS that more championships are on the way!

Clemson should be a lock for this kid when seeing the other schools that has offered him. It would be like moving out of the projects into a gated community!!!

might get one of each considering the portal will open spots for us when some guys leave. I get your point but also these guys know who the want to offer. they dont just throw offers around

There are some great midmajor types, how about saying "highschool type"?

I have to agree with your sentiments here, the WR offer board is very uninspiring

Well Ragman, Memphis is 7-1, ranked 25th and may have a shot at a Playoff spot so that sounds like pretty good competition to me.

There is no guarantee that portal kids are any better than a kid straight out of HS, they entered the portal for a reason and very few end up playing on team that can compete for championships. Personally, I like the way that Dabo handles our portal selections if we don't have to have them right now, he leaves them there...

Most of our fans should try and understand that the really good portal talent is usually a kid that was overlooked and once they make themselves known as a top prospect, they enter the portal and get snatched from the portal as quick as they entered it...

the idea is you scout the lower college ranks to find a guy who will see Clemson as a major upgrade in terms of exposure, NIL opportunities, better facilities, and a better pathway to the NFL.

I mean no offense to them saying they're smaller programs, but if you're a great player at Coastal/ECU/App state Clemson should be looking at those programs for stars. Just look at UT and their QB they got from App State. We should look for some linemen from the MAC for example, who is the best guard at Ohio/Miami/Bowling Green could we get them in?

Look at Gibbs transferring from that clown Geoff Collins run GT team and slid into bama pretty freggin easily.

Additionally a G5 lower P4 guy will have time in a legit weight room and film against legit D1 competition.

The NFL still finds talent at the G5 level, why can't Clemson?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the teams that are making the portal work for them are finding a ways to somehow

get high profile transfers to hop into the portal and sign immediately with their teams. However they're doing that we need to investigate how we can do the same.

In today's football world, if you get excited about a commitment from a 17-18 year old kid, you need to have a different perspective until the scholarship papers are signed.

In today's environment both top high school recruits and top portal guys are going to come with a price tag. Is Clemson willing to pay the higher price that is demanded by the higher rated recruits/portal guys??

Thus far it appears the answer to that question is "NO" especially in regards to high school recruits. It seems our current philosophy is to not pay a high price for high school recruits. Dabo has indicated he would rather put the pay for play money towards guys already in the program as a means to keep them/reward them.

I can certainly understand Dabo's position but it does have some downsides. It almost guarantees Clemson is going to be less competitive for the highest rated/cream of the crop high school recruits because a lot of top schools are willing to spend more than Clemson towards signing the higher tier HS recruits. During the pre-NIL years we were able to pull enough of the higher/highest rated recruits to Clemson where we won a lot of games with them and established ourselves as a top tier developmental program.

But...To remain BOTH a developmental program AND a continual top winning program requires recruiting at the higher levels every year. If recruiting falls from a "high level" to an "average level" for a couple of years - the program will require "rebuilding" and not "reloading". Think of the model that Wake Forest had back before NIL - recruit average players, red shirt them, and once every 3/4 years they had a pretty good team of experienced players.

At some point Clemson (i.e. Dabo) is going to have to re-evaluate how we spend our dollars to determine if we are spending in a manner to get the most talented roster for our monetary resources. My personal opinion is we need to shift from wanting to be a pure "developmental" program to one where we still develop a substantial number of players but will actively seek to bring in experienced portal players to balance the "developmental" curve vs "ready to play" curve to something that is manageable in the pay for play era.

This particular off-season is shaping up to be a pivotal point for our program. Potential staff changes may have a tremendous affect on our future. But perhaps more so than staff changes, seeing where/how Clemson spends our money towards players may have the most impact of the future direction of Clemson football.

Fellow Tigers We Have Some Very Serious Problems...1st We R Recruiting 3 & 4 Stars And No 5 Stars🤔🤔🤔 2nd With Very Little Experience With The Portal AND Not Playing From Day 1 The Transfers We Do Have...3rd Apparently NIL $$$ Depends On Playing Time..
So What Potential Stars Will Transfer To Stay On Sidelines🤔🤔🤔 4th Since 2021 There Has Been NO Obvious Player Development😤
So Please Explain How We Win Championships Again🤔🤔🤔
I Bleed Orange And Class Of 1982 (1st Natty)
And Am Not Complaining Because Of "One"
Bad Season🌞 This Moment Has Been Trending This Way Since Trevor Left...And Dabo Seems To Not Understand The Definition Of Insanity🤔🤔🤔
Watching More Film Has Never Righted A Sinking Ship...I'm Truly Concerned That This
Malaise Will Continue In 2026 And With NO Obvious Player Development...We R Screwed

I look at the star ratings, but I’m always much more interested in who else is recruiting them. We are so far removed from our recruiting in the championship era. Gives little confidence that a return to prominence anytime soon.
