So the half of Americans who currently pay zero federal income taxes should get a tax increase? Not saying i necessarily disagree but not exactly a sound strategy politically.

The bottom 50% of Americans own 2.5% of the wealth and pay 3% of federal income taxes. Seems fair enough.

(even more so than today), and Trump hates poor people, so why would he do anything to benefit them?

Poor people don't really pay federal income taxes. Assuming he wants to replace that tax revenue with tariffs, poor people would actually end up paying more. It would be a tax cut for people making 6 figures at the expense of people who are barely getting by.

It's completely unrealistic without raising taxes somewhere else. He said he isn't cutting Medicare or Social Security. The budget bill that House Republicans passed increases military spending. Maybe he thinks tariffs or higher sales taxes can make up the difference. Most people would end up paying more in overall taxes in that scenario. So far he has made no significant cuts to government spending.

Either that or with tariffs and maybe a federal sales tax, which would effectively be a tax increase for most people.

Trump's and Lutnick's paraphrased words, it's going to be considered when there is a balanced budget.

Actually it's more likely with the current admin and congress that those with incomes over that amount will pay no taxes. Sad but true.

An even smaller percentage of Americans.
Wages low, inflation high, GDP possibly contracting into a recession.... so glad Trump is making us "rich" again.
He's a freaking snake oil salesman.
