He is exactly right.
He was also right when he threw shade at Dan Mullen after he beat him two years ago:
“ There’s no coach out there that can out-coach recruiting,” Smart said. “I don’t care who you are. The best coach to ever play the game better be a good recruiter.”

Kirby Smart is obsessed with winning college football games. So, you can either believe:
1. Fields was not doing what he needed to do in the practice field, weight room, meeting room, film room, etc... so Smart did not reward him with the job...ie, Fields felt he was entitled to the job b/c of his recruiting rankings.
B. Kirby knowingly played a much, much worse QB with the hopes that it would be enough to win.
iii. Kirby is a racist and didn't want a black QB.
Those are your 3 options.

Kids, family, staff kids, nephew's, Godchildren, etc have cost us 5-8 schollies a year. Dabo can't continue to give up that many schollies annually when the Portal needs to be used and struggling to find a schollie makes no sense when 8 sons, friends of sons, local kids, etc are taking spots. Dabo can afford to pay for his kids to go to college and all their friends. Why hurt the team when you need a WR but don't have a schollie to hit the Portal with.
Roster management has become major issue with all the sub-D1 players on the team.

So who do we kick off our roster to make room for a transfer? Last I checked we are at 88 and have to get that down to 85 by June.
Could we have used that DB out of virginia. Sure! But we had already filled up at CB with recruits and Sheridan Jones came back. We don’t tell one of those CB recruits sorry we’re pulling your offer to give to this kid out of Virginia.
Will there be a time when we are stuck In January needing a player from the portal? Sure. But that’s not in today.
To me Dabo needs to find a way to get into the top 5 of recruiting year in and year out. That’s how GA and Bama are doing it. 2016 and 2018 was a combination of some elite recruits and some great evaluation of lowered rates recruits. Lately Dabo’s staff has not done well evaluating the lowers rated recruits to maintain that elite status. We’re just staying at pretty good.

Pull the scholarships from all nepotism offers and there will be plenty of room for more players.
At this point, the "portal ship" for getting quality players in time for Spring Practice, where they can learn more, has sailed. The next chance is in May.

I agree but for the most part those have cycled through. Paul Tyson is probably the only one now and he fits into 2 columns. We use the portal and take care of family. There is another walk on or two, but they are more in the "worked hard and earned it" category.
It kind of goes along with not having the scholarships, but I think that we got too caught up with a Clemson offer is special. We almost missed on Trenton Simpson and Antonio Williams because of it, but Clemson was their dream school. How many recruits did we really miss out on? I understand the concept, but there is a such thing as "too much of a good thing."
