Boscobel is a snooty place. I remember a group of us went

there to play while I was at Clemson, and they told us no way, since we were not members. That is, until one of our guys happened to mention that he was a Frat Boy of one of the Greek Life Clemson branches. The snooty young man at the register turned out to be one as well, and that suddenly made it all ok. We played the course, and I found it to be nothing special at all.
I will say, just in general, if you are going to build your course right next to a major thoroughfare, maybe you should be at least semi-public? Seems to me that being a private course in that situation would just be constantly rubbing the public's nose in your snootiness.

Not a great course, but it is close to Clemson and snooty!
Hire Grayson Marshall to recruit for Brownee! He wants to shoot for the top, not also ran positions.
It could only help!
Go Tigers!

Hmmm...I've never been in a frat, or much of a golfer, but I did take a dump there and thought the club-house was pretty nice. Even a cute little dog came to check on me. Never got a snooty vibe..
The course is also way better then I remember from 15 years or so ago.

We offer scholarships to plenty of heavily recruited players

but I wouldn't expect you to know that.
We also recruit many others, but don't get to the stage of offering a scholarship since they aren't interested in playing at a football school.
Changing that perception is important, and there is only so much a basketball coach can do about that. That's why the words and actions from Neff are so vital.

So now it's the players' fault?
Jun 27, 2022, 2:34 PM
|
|
That'd pathetic That's pathetic.
You're saying our players have been worse than the dozens and dozens of programs who have done more with less over the last 12 years? How were previous coaches able to do better than Brad with MUCH less in terms of facilities?
What do you we need to build to get players capable of finishing in the top 40 more than twice in 12 years? A locker room? A bowling alley or a miniature golf course? LOL. None of the "top" players have ever said they didn't want to come here due to a lack of facilities. They turn us down because we don't win enough, period. We don't win enough because the coaching is not good enough. I like Brad, but the facts are the facts. We've had the players to do much, much better, and certainly on par to have more than two top-40 finishes in 12 years, but unfortunately they've been lacking solid and consistent coaching.
The only person you're fooling with these contrived excuses is yourself.

Calm down. He’s always been a Brownell apologist. To the point where you see acceptance of mediocrity and wonder if he’s placing a single coach above Clemson. Reminds me of the Tommy Bowden apologists who’d probably still be content winning 7-8 games a year and going to the Humanitarian Bowl.

To say that we don't go after highly touted players is incorrect. A quick perusal of our offers every year would show you that.
You're welcome to have whatever opinion you like about our staff, but your posts will be more convincing if you lead with facts and not emotional opinions.

I'm not saying that we are going after them, but it is a big difference between making an offer and actively recruiting.

"The NCAA found that Buckingham was improperly certified to play as a freshman when there was sufficient information available that should have put the school on notice of problems with his academic credentials."
"This information," the committee said, "was either ignored or not considered, even though it was brought to the attention of the institution on more than one occasion."

was fairly minor and innocent anyway. The penalty was a gross illustration of biased enforcement of the “rules” ..
At least once Wayne got into college, he actually attended legitimate classes and worked toward his degree.
No amount on hand-wringing and virtue signaling over this little issue will even make a dent in the North Carolina Dean Smith/Roy Williams academic scandal that was totally swept away with virtually no repercussions.

I was there from 84-89 and yes LJ was hopping and the team was top 20 most of the time but we always underachieved in the post season. It’s when we learned there was a place called Wichita state.

Basketball at Clemson was fun during those years because we had good players. Our recruiting has to get better if we are going to get better.

Brad is the losingest coach since Larry Shyatt, even if you want to leave out Cliff Ellis. Can you imagine Brad coaching the slab 5?
The difference is coaching.

Really just stating the obvious, what many of us have been saying for years. We CAN be better, and we SHOULD be better than we've been, and it starts with getting BETTER PLAYERS. Yet, we keep this hope alive that there is some kind of work-around with sub-par talent, and it's pure delusion. It's a lie. It's a con. Pretending that we just can't do it. BS. Hopefully Neff is the guy who fixes this insanity.

H&11 yea, I know, and I believe that you can coach up, and win with 2, and 3 star players, but it takes a couple/few years to coach those players up to a 4-5 star status, and that means that we have to have at least, and no less than 15 of those types of players in a yearly rotation to be a consistent winning program, and that isn't going to happen in the Transfer Portal era...We have to be able to get 4-5 star players through recruiting, or we will continue to be a basketball program that will get lucky once in a blue moon just to get to the NCAA tournament.
Do I think that after 12 years of The Brad being the HC of Clemson Basketball that he will all of sudden get Clemson in the NCAA tournament just 5 times in 10 years, H E L L NO I DON'T!!! But I do hope that with Neff's verbal commitment to our basketball program, if The Brad isn't the right HC, I hope that Neff will hire Clemson Basketball a HC that can, and will put Clemson Basketball to being a consistent top 3 team in the ACC. If our team can be a consistent top 3 team in the ACC, we should make the NCAA tournament 7 or 8 times in a 10 year period, and I do want, and hope that for Clemson, Especially for the fans that are going to the games!!!! Go Tiger Basketball, with, or without The Brad Brownell!!!

I like the way he thinks…..no reason we shouldn’t go after top talent! We should use the portal to get 4 and 5 stars that are unhappy because they were edged out by other 5 stars at their committed school.

There's a reason we don't go after top talent
Jun 27, 2022, 9:13 AM

because top talent is going to ask Brad "So tell me about your offensive philosophy" and Brad's gonna be like "Well.....errrrr...you see, what had happened was......"
Top talent is going to legitimately worry about Brad's ability to develop them and put them in a position to excel and be noticed by NBA teams.

He doesn't have one. He seems to be trying to run a 3-2 motion offense, but it's slow, the cuts are random and the picks are non-existent. Worse, he doesn't change for personnel. When we've had strong post players, he sticks with the motion which is designed to cover for the lack of a post presence.
Oliver's calling card was D, with his gimmicky game-long full court press......not a fan of that either but at least he had a gimmick.
Brownell wouldn't have won a single game with the Slab 5 after the opening slate of Marathon Oil and Athletes in Action was over.

The Brad is a position type coach, and defense minded coach. I've personal never known really of The Brad being an offensive coach with any style other than position to run the clock down. So I would say that The Brad is a time clock coach

Okay, counter with some great facts of your own as to why you think Brad is the best coach we could have or even deserving of continuing for a lot longer with the program. Waiting.

I’ve never even heard of the guy and he’s your legend? Wow, just wow.
The damage the trash talk over Arch Manning did to my little tiny heart will take a while to repair, but if this is the best ya got to represent your basketball team, then you might consider making some kind of a move. While we’ve never won a title in basketball, at least we have some real players. Now, get busy downvoting bush league boys. I’ll always love Dabo and Trevor Lawrence and the players, but seems the fans are coot level #### poor.

Did you know......
The last big time recruit we competed with big time programs for got paid to go to Duke?
Our assistant tried to get into the game by paying Zion, but he was caught and subsequently fired.
He was immediately hired by FSU as an assistant. FSU is a school that was recruiting a lot of 3* and randomly started recruiting in the top 10 and getting a bunch of 5* in 2015.

I have a former player, who is in the Clemson and ACC record books, telling me one thing, and 4 fans on a college sports message board telling me something different. I just don't know who to believe anymore.
Legally, 4 against 1 is a preponderance of evidence, which wins in a civil case.
However; some believe the condition of the basketball program to be a case of criminal conduct, so......
I guess you're on your own with your choice of who to believe.

is that Brad Brownell on the bench during games? Sure does look like him in the 6 men on the court in the loss to WVU in Charleston, and at the end of the Va Tech loss at the buzzer in the ACCT.

I loved Clemson Basketball during that time, thank you for your open and honest opinions, showing out and still supporting Clemson from a distance. I would love to see our past stars help with recruiting too and for us to go for bigger recruits. The future in basketball will be bright with or without!
Of course we have a couple guys commenting in unison from different accounts the same thing against Marshal and the rest of us, it’s almost comical they don’t think we’ve figured it out.. lol
I hope Brad figures it out and wins the ACC in ‘23 and makes it to the final four. Let’s go Tigers!!

Boscobel has been compared to the Masters and Augusta National. Really!
August has a fence to keep people out. Boscobel as a fence to keep people in.
At the Masters you get a green jacket if you win the tournament. At Boscobel if you win a tournament there you get a straight jacket.
Facts!

It took a player from my generation to adequately say what I feel. I'm glad Grayson pointed out all of the advantages we have as a collegiate sports program, and basically pointed out the problem: Brad Brownell. It's clear that Dan Rad had given Brownell a handshake deal for life. However, what the heck is Neff thinking??!?! Why is he making us suffer through another Brownell year? Neff made the clearly needed change with baseball, and stood pat with basketball. Clemson won't get a dime of my alumni money until Brownell is gone. He's a stain on our university.
We need more honest journalism like this, and not have reporters feeding us censored "drink the koolaid" stories on Brownell.

I don’t think there’s any chance that brownell will ever excite fans and have Littlejohn rocking with enthusiasm. So far, as long as the program has generated any positive revenue, our leadership seems content not making a coaching change.
Excluding the Covid year, I don’t know of any year that we’ve not generated a profit. Heck, we we generated a profit during Larry Shyatt’s tenure too but that was also a disaster and if we made a good hire we’d improve excitement and profits.

Involving players like Grayson Marshall in our recruiting efforts - a player that recruits today are super familiar with and have idolized for years - is surely the ticket to recruiting players that Duke, UNC, and Kansas also want.
I really laughed when Grayson said that he and his teammates from almost 40 years ago should be involved in recruiting.

It would be hard for Grayson to convey the type of student turnout, support, and electricity that our fan base had for Clemson basketball back in his day to now - it's night and day and has little in common.
Better just to let yesterday's Clemson legends sit this one out and defer to Brad's own stable of legends to help shore up support going forward.

Thanks to Grayson Marshall for his inspiring words on what Clemson basketball ought to be. I hope Mr Neff is listening to what basketball was and what it ought to be again. I hope the people that write the checks were paying attention. It's too late for several generations of Clemson students to understand what Clemson basketball can and should be. But the kids who enroll over the next decade deserve better that what we have had and who we have been in basketball for 30+ years.

I think you know that the ACC was much tougher back then, and you just choose to peddle misleading stats because I know you love to do that, but just in case--
Brownell's ACC games: 27.8% were against top 25 teams, 12.4% were against top 10 Grayson's ACC games: 42.9% were against top 25 teams, 26.8% were against top 10
And yeah this is at time of game and not end of season ranking which would be better, but it's the simplest way to add 'em up. If you want to do end of season ranking, go for it. It may change the percents some, but it's not gonna change the point

We are talking about a 4 year career for a player vs 12 years, for a coach, and it took year 8 to get to the Sweet Sixteen.
Also the ACC was so much tougher when Grayson played then now it's not even close...

It's about time we held Brownlee accountable for his lack of results. If we chitcanned Monte Lee for similarly poor results, then there's no valid reason to keep Brownleee at Clemson.

That he made was the former players should be a part of the recruitment program. Clemson has had several sons or brothers that chose other teams. That should not happen.
