Hard to believe they have us at 83% chance of beating FSU

Nov 7, 2017, 9:20 PM

86% chance of beating South Carolina. I hope we win, but I need to see some better defense that they displayed in Raleigh and Syracuse. We always seem to have a defense that is among the tops in the country, but then we have these games where the other team gets 27 and 31. I don't see Bama and Georgia giving up points like that. Heck, I don't see the coots giving up points like that. Although they did give up 35 to NC State. I would just like to see more consistency in points given up. I know with the exception of Syracuse and NC State, all of the point totals over 10 that we've given up were just in mop up time, but still we looked bad against Cuse and State.

The offenses in the SEC is so bad it's hard to get a true read on Georgia but Bama defense is great every year hate them or not.

Bama? UGA? Coots? Have you not seen the offenses they play in that league?? Do you recall the SEC powerhouse we played in week 2 scoring a whopping 6 points on our defense?

I don't disagree with your point, but we need to tighten up***

We've got to get our pass coverage........

improved otherwise BV can't afford to rush the QB like he prefers to do. He'll feel like he's got to hold the CBs and LBs back in coverage.

But they're giving us only a 49% chance of winning last 3

Nov 7, 2017, 9:40 PM

Someone is bad at math. If we are 83% against FSU, 100% against Citadel, 86% against Usuc, then 83% x 100% x 86% equals 71%.

Sorry but pretty sure that isn’t right

Nov 7, 2017, 10:24 PM

To find the probability that 3 events will happen you multiply them. So it should be 71%.

you are correct, you multiply probabilities. It's not an average.

True, but the made-up percentages are not based on true math

so in reality you free are to calculate it however you want.

At least you tried

But you need to multiply the percentages, not take the average.

Is it counting a likely ACCG game?

What's the source for those numbers?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Found it on ESPN FPI and, yes, it's factoring in conference title games.

Nov 7, 2017, 10:57 PM

Penn State has like an 88% chance to win out because they almost certainly won't be playing in one.

I believe the last number includes all games up to the playoffs, which would also include the ACC Championship game.

Re: Hard to believe they have us at 83% chance of beating FSU

Nov 7, 2017, 11:31 PM

If Clemson played the same conference schedule as South Carolina this season we'd be giving up like 10 points per game. I remember the South Carolina fans crowing last season about having a really good defense because they weren't giving up all that many per game, and they turned around and gave up 56 against Clemson. In fact, the 3 highest scoring margins, and 4 out of the 5 highest scoring margins they gave up last season were OOC games against Clemson, South Florida, Western Carolina, and East Carolina. Follow that up this season, and the most points they have given up in a game this season was once again an OOC game.

Re: Hard to believe they have us at 83% chance of beating FSU

Nov 7, 2017, 11:35 PM

People also don't seem to realize that in today's game of football, it's very hard for a defense to stop an offense that has a really good quarterback, good receivers, and an OL that can give the QB time to operate which was the case with NC State, and the way Syracuse played against us. We certainly had games the last couple of seasons before this one where we gave up points as well(Louisville, FSU, and Alabama come to mind). Obviously the mightly Alabama has given up points when facing up against a really good offense as well(two games against Clemson, Ole Miss when they had Kelly, A&M in past years). Luckily, most teams don't have the combination that I mentioned above, and FSU and South Carolina aren't included among the teams that do.

Our adjustments after the half at NC State were key...

Nov 8, 2017, 9:15 AM

We really turned around the performance in that game. 'Cuse was an anomaly similar to Pitt last year. I think we'll see the D return to form this weekend. BTW, if you are concerned about the UGA D, go look at the Mizzou box score...

UGA and Bama are tuning their starters for the SECCCG.

We are tuning our three deep for the playoff.
