In the late 50s and even into the early 60s they were the "Cincinnati Red Legs." That distinguished them from the Boston "Red Sox."

The high school ranks have even more. In PA there is a town called North East (which happens to be in the extreme NW corner of PA - but that’s another story) and the high school mascot is the North East Grape Pickers. There are a lot of grapes grown in the area and a Welch’s processing plant there but that really doesn’t do much to intimidate opponents. Can only play imagine Welch’s must have had a hand in it….

Cairo, GA (pronounced KAY-ROW, not like the city in Egypt) is the Syrupmakers.
Don't know if it is still there but years ago the major production plant of KARO (pronounced like the town, not the city) SYRUP was in that town. (The syrup was named for the town, just spelled differently).
