Longhorns and Laters may have really screwed up...they may get more money from the rich and powerful SEC but now will have trouble getting invited to the prom...as big12 members they had a good chance but now odds go down! Just about as stupid as the aggies...gain Dumbo Fishnet, lose a pot of money there, lose one of the best rivalries in Football and don't have a chance of winning the SEC...but the do have more television revenue...but have lost thousands of fans and season ticket holders because of stupid prices over previous year! COLLEGE football may price itself out of existence!

Just responded to your “what’s in it for Clemson” post, and made a similar point. While I would love to be the undisputed champ of college football and play the blue bloods, here is about where I would put our odds on average:

Current 12 team setup, with us in ACC:
Make playoffs 1/3 to 1/2 of the time
Make the semis once about every 5 years
Make the finals once every 10 years
Win it once every 20 years

Future “big two” playoff, with us in one of those leagues:
Make playoffs about 20% of time
Make the semis once every 10 years
Make the finals once every 20 years
Win it every 30-40 years (keep in mind, we are playing a “big two” conference schedule, and then have to run table in playoffs

Future12 team “ROY” playoff, with us in ACC:
Make playoffs 80% of years
Make semis 50% of years
Make final 25% of years
Win it all at least once every 5-6 years

So you probably think Clemson had no business being in the CFP so many times in the last few years...and we did that with less talent and C oaching acumen than we have now! Maybe we had a favorable schedule back then!

Not what I think at all

We earned our way into those CFP appearances, and won the playoff games on the field. But we did those with FSU down and a 4-team playoff. I would be curious to hear your expectations in the three scenarios I gave.

In the 2024 setup, I would expect that we make the playoffs more often than not, which is about what we have done to this point. But we would have at least one, and maybe two, more playoff games.

I think it is fair to assume that we would lose more conference games if we were in the SEC or the B1G…maybe you don’t. And then we would still have to navigate a 12 or 14 team playoff in the years that we made it in.

And the currently non-existent ROY playoff? We have no idea what that will look like, so that is just a guess. There are a lot of unknowns here, not the least of which is where is FSU?

Our run from 2015-2020 was remarkable, but we are not going to beat FSU every year, annd are not going to win the ACC (or even be top two) every year.just look at the last few seasons. I can’t assume that 2015-2020 seasons were the rule, and the last three seasons (and the 1992-2014 seasons) were aberrations. I have orange colored glasses, but I am also a realist.

Just curious, but what QB's on this team are better than Watson and Trevor? What RB's are better than Gallman and Etienne? What WR's are better than Williams, Renfrow, Higgins or (pre-injury) Ross? What DL are better than Lawrence, Wilkins, Ferrell, or Bryant? What LB's are better than Simmons or K'Von?

That entire area has been messed up in football since the old Southwest Conference decided to kill & eat each other. From the Death Penalty at SMU to the dissolution of one of the greatest Thanksgiving weekend rivalries in sports with the Texas vs A&M game. They really screwed the pooch 50 years ago and in some respects, are still paying for it.

No, Arkansas and Frank Broyles destroyed the SW conference cause Nixon declared UT natty after beating Ark at home...he also hated DR sticking up for Rice, SMU and Baylor...Broyles thought Arkansas was more important and deserved more money than those lesser schools...sound familiar, for all the change some things remain the same! Sounds just like FSU!

When Arkansas pulled out and went to the along with USC the SWC was in trouble...folks have been moving around forever trying to make something happen that was not natural...Arkansas never won and neither did the poultry...can't make a silk purse out of hog or chicken manure...Big 12 would not take everyone from the old SWC...A&M really screwed up...beating other teams is what we should do!

I thought the same as soon as it was announced- they were in the playoff much easier in the old conference instead of having to beat out Bama, UGA, and LSU to get there. Now, if the other conferences don't bow down and allow the 2 mega-conferences to have extra automatic bids they will suffer.

They have had considerably more money than Clemson forever...Georgia could buy and give away CCC and not miss a dime! Bama, LSU, Tennessee. All loaded for years, so what's going to change now...your crystal ball is a little foggy....maybe we are doomed...I guess not...Saban still has faith in Dabo and its a shame you do not...a world with a poor old crippled Tiger kissing LSU, Auburn and Missouris ash can is depressing...with all that money we will end up just like your chivkens!

But seriously where will it go? Bigger stadiums that no one will go to due to ticket prices? Coaches salaries? Players pockets? Scholarships for non athletes? Title 9 most likely. It’s a mess and makes head hurt to even think about.

You do realize they are leaving this format and basically going to make the Big 10 vs SEC invitational right?

Can’t believe so many people believe if Clemson joins either of the big 2 leagues they won’t make the playoffs as often. I believe they would have just as good chance as anybody to win either league every year.

Would love to see Texas and Oklahoma overtake the SEC like the SWC in the past.

They certainly have the pedigree and if you're either one of them Saban' s departure is a positive development.

In 5 years the Big 12 will be considered similar to what the AAC is today, the best of the rest. And, there will be zero chance for Big 12 teams to get invited to the national championship tourney unless their is another championship somewhere above the FCS and below the B1G/SEC invitational.

The Big 12 very recently had a team in the 4-team playoff. Why do you assume they can't get a team into a 12-team playoff?

As Tiger living in DFW area I am so glad SMU coming to ACC. Their first ACC game at home going to it with my Clemson shirt to welcome to ACC. First game at Death Valley be watching in a SMU hat with my Clemson shirt. Loved home game when my NTSU (Alumni) came to Death Valley. Told the Clemson fans around me Dad Clemson Alum and me NTSU alumn. They showed me more respect than most home teams. Then complained I was out yelling the Clemson fans
