Guess we’ll have to be patient with the wildcat

Sep 12, 2021, 9:00 AM

I want to see Will Taylor throw the ball as much as anyone, but it seems they just want to run him right now. My guess is, since they let him run the wildcat during the Georgia game, they know he can throw it pretty well but didn’t want to put that pressure on him early in the season. At some awesome point in the season, Dabo will let him throw and it will be awesome (he played QB in high school and assume he has a solid arm with his baseball background). We always seem to enjoy setting big things up like that.

Of course, I’m more excited about seeing him get more time in the slot after that punt return. With football and baseball, we’ll hopefully have at least 3 years of constant Will Taylor athletic feats. So, if you want to see us throw out of the wildcat, just be patient.

Go Tigers!

We have some real speed in the backfield him with Shipley.

I don’t understand the fascination with the wildcat.

It’s an obvious run. It isn’t creative anymore.

True, you need a very good offensive line, not a line that is just offensive.

That’s the problem, it should NOT be an obvious run

When Arkansas ran it so well with Darrin McFadden, there was always the threat that he would throw it even though he didn’t do it very often.

There has to be some fear on the part of defenders to keep them from totally selling out on the guy at Wildcat position.

Personally, I hate seeing Clemson fans start calling for oddball schemes this early in the career of a 5-star QBs tenure.

Good point.

I agree with you. It seems that we should become consistently good at the basics like handoffs to the the running back, passes to the flat, and passes over the middle before adding wrinkles like this.

I guess down the road we should just call it the triple option. Maybe Paul Johnson can be the offense’s Ted Roof and his sole purpose is to train Will Taylor in the art of the triple option just to mess with opposing teams during the 3rd quarter. I’m sure our linemen can learn to dive every play. ??

It would be so Dabo to hire Paul Johnson and triple option GT into oblivion and then never run the triple option again.

Go Tigers!

The reason to run the wildcat is it gives you one extra blocker instead of having a QB just hand the ball off. If we run it with DJ spread out as a WR we are wasting the wildcat advantage personnel wise. After that you can add in a pass to receivers that don’t include a 6 ft 5 in slow moving QB.

wildcard play. Now, it's just a matter of where is the player going to run?

We don’t need to be running that play on 3rd and 1.

Didn't know that was still a thing. Seems so 1999.
