I grew up loving Crosby, Stills, & Nash. Rest in peace.

He actually tweeted this yesterday:

David was also with the Byrds prior to CSN. Turn, turn, turn...

Shocked, but not surprised. Amazed he lived this long.

My Woodstock album is worn out on the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young songs. Crosby was a great song writer and performer.

He was a very talented songwriter and performer. Was surprised with his tweets about Heaven. I guess he is finding out about now.

within CSN&Y, and the main culprit was Young, but I read some time ago, that a lot of the hard feelings may have come from Crosby. I don't know if that's true or not, but I had read many times that Neil Young could be a jerk. Anyway, I loved their music, still do. I guess it's getting to the point where I'm no fun any more. RIP David Crosby.

Lynyrd Skynyrd certainly didn’t like Neil Young.***

How about that. I had always heard that the feud started when Skynyrd was a little known band, that would front for Young, occasionally. I am now enlightened.

I always wondered about the Neil Young reference in Sweet Home Alabama.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: No they did not.

Jan 20, 2023, 8:35 AM

Well, he (Young) took two swings at the South (“Southern Man”) and with “Alabama” more specifically. There was no rift between them but “SweetHome” was a jab back at Young. He (Young) stated he liked the song and especially the iconic guitar lick. No feud just fodder.

My first thought about David Crosby always was, he seemed

1

Jan 20, 2023, 8:45 AM

to be the "arrogant" one of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Neil Young only hung around when he wanted to, so it was Crosby, Stills and Nash a lot more than it was a foursome.

Much like Simon and Garfunkel, CSN always seemed to have some feud going on that interfered with the music. But, also like Simon and Garfunkel, when they were MAKING music together, the sound was totally unique and instantly identifiable. You didn't have to wonder who you were listening to, because nobody else on earth sounded like that.

It is a sad commentary on aging that the musical heroes of my youth are beginning to die off now at an exponentially increasing rate. Charlie Watts, Dusty Hill, Christine McVie, and now David Crosby, all in a relatively short time frame.

We will always have the music to remember them by. In the case of David Crosby, I will always cherish "Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Four Way Street", one of, if not THE seminal live album of an era of music. Far from studio perfection, it just was what it was, four musicians doing their thing on stage. If you liked it, great, if you didn't, that was ok too, they were doing it for themselves as much as for anyone else.

Neil Young was a jerk from what most people say. Wonder if he is still looking for a friend.
