Curious to know the avg net profit of each conference

May 22, 2022, 7:26 PM

Everybody likes to focus on revenues, but most smart people know that the bottom line number is the most important number. To my knowledge the SEC and Big10 schools have to pay out extra money out of their revenues to other areas that our conference does not. Are they still making more profit than the ACC? The answer is probably yes, but I don't think it as big of a gap as the overall revenue number. It would be an interesting number to know to truly see how far behind our conference is.

Doesn't really matter what the net for a conference is. Schools have vastly difference budgets and there could be huge differences in the margins. Athletic departments are not in business to make huge profits but is most certainly better to make money than to lose it.

College athletics are a non-profit tax exempt entities and are therefore precluded from turning a profit. So if you’re the CFO of a college athletics program you find ways to break-even. If that means accelerating payments on a bond, giving a coach a raise, paying forward some recruiting expenses, making a donation to the university’s general fund…
