Years..many years..I have poked fun at " Soccer Fan" for his or her elation at, after spending 3 hours or so, watching a match on the pitch....well..at being ecstatic by getting a 1,yes ONE, point win....So, the truth is, yesterday I took Tatet Tater Chicken Hater fishing with me to Lake Russell.....And, after approximately 5 hours of hitting laydowns, brush piles,drop offs,and rocky banks in the muddy water...we headed to the lower end if the lake to hit two more quick spots in cleaner water before it got dark...And dadgum if Ole Spud didn't come through winning the day's prize for the most fish and the biggest fish, with this fish being both the former and the latter.....
I WAS JUBILANT!!!.....and that is precisely about the time my own irony hit me squarely in the face....

as a guest in a local bass fishing club tournament, I caught ONE barely legal length keeper late in the afternoon on a REAL hot day on Lake Moultrie. Why was I elated? Because I was the ONLY guest who had even caught a fish, and in so doing, won me a nice little trophy that was bigger than the fish.
I can still recall my host, who was good enough to be a semi-pro, explaining to me the difference between Cypress trees and Tupelo trees in the water, and reciting this old rhyme whenever he would pull the boat close to one:
"Tupelo tree, Tupelo tree, have you got a fish for me?"
