Good blog by Clemson alum

Oct 7, 2013, 7:42 AM

I used to love his radio show when he was in Charlotte and I still read his blog every week.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Why is this guy not the voice of the Tigers???***

Not sure we could afford him.

Mark Packer is notorious for having to get paid.

Three things:

1) I didn't charge you to read the blog....it's free to the general public.

2) I acquired a great education at Clemson University. I majored in Economics with a minor in Communications. The value of a great education is it enables you to make more money.

3) Go Tigers.

A blog with no way to reply... how convenient. I agree

Oct 7, 2013, 9:50 AM

with his CFB opinions but his take on Pollack / PC Rice is off base. Somehow he worked in a backhanded race card when the only thing in question was supposedly a matter of gender. Leave the politicians out of it. Their 'cloak room' decisions have a dubious record at best. Condy can go 'hang with the guys' at the National. She has absolutely no business in CFB. By the way, who did she say was going to attack the US?

I'm the easiest person to reach on the planet. My direct email address is pack@packsmack.com...and you can reach me on twitter at @MarkPacker.

There was nothing intended to be "backhanded" in my opinion about Pollack's remarks. All I was saying that his approach was wrong.

There are a lot of folks who never played the game that can certainly breakdown the top teams in the country.

This isn't rocket science....it's college football. The only thing that has changed from decades past is that now it's a multi-billion dollar business and people are looking to cover all angles including the PC crowd.

So where did Pollack ever mention race or is that just a PC

Oct 7, 2013, 10:09 AM

assumption? If they want to address the "multi-billion dollar business" angle, it might be beneficial to start with a national review of the blatant referee biases that are occurring every weekend at the conference level. With your forum, maybe you could address it. It's not PC but it's pertinent.

Pollack's point was that he wants the best "football people" on the committee. I don't have a problem with that position whatsoever. What got him in some hot water was when he admitted that no women should be on the committee because they haven't played the game.

All I referenced is that regardless of gender or race, Pollack would have been better off if he made a simple statement that playing the game should be a standard prerequisite for being on the committee. I think you're reading way too much into my comments.

It's pretty simple, I think there are plenty of qualified people that can make smart decisions for the best of college football.....men, women, black and white....even folks that haven't played the game on the high school, college or professional level.

Let's forget about Pollack and whatever constitutes 'PC".

When ranking CFB teams, how do "plenty of qualified people that can make smart decisions for the best of college football" make that determination other than an evaluation of the teams' performances on the field of play? Is this about the "best of college football" OR the best FOR college football? Again, I don't see the any value to political bias in sports. There's enough greed in DC and Wall Street. Cheating players with bogus calls for some preferable conference agenda and BCS payout is BUNK. Where's the screenshot from the Stanford/Washington overturned call? Maybe there is one but I find it hard to believe that the ESPiN director didn't bother to show it. Maybe he was just being PC.... Privileged Content.

I thought there were a bunch of questionable calls this past weekend.

The Washington-Stanford call was brutal. I thought the refs blew the ruling.

But the one thing we've seen happen in CFB is that it all works itself out through the course of the year.

Washington gets Oregon this week and the Ducks still have to deal with a trip to the Farm.

Clemson-FSU winner gets a huge leg up in the ACC (and BCS Standings).....the SEC has too many battles to name before we see who emerges as the champ.

Oklahoma-Baylor on Nov 7th is a MONSTER game, too.

Ohio State still has to beat Michigan in the Big House where Brady Hoke has yet to lose a game.

Louisville has a joke of a schedule, but they have to beat Rutgers this Thursday.

Pick a league, and we've still got a bunch of quality football to be played.

Will there be bad calls? You bet.

But let's see how it plays out....it really is the beauty of the game that we all love so much. Every weekend provides great story lines and drama.

I agree with everything about this post other than the part

Oct 7, 2013, 11:39 AM

about "the beauty of the game". I think there's a very sinister side to the money-grab of the BCS format by the individual conference power brokers that play with the dreams and aspirations of players like they're some sort of staged "story lines and drama". There's no accountability and they know it. As to it playing out, who knows when the next questionable call will occur and what implications it may have. A little cheating leads to a lot of cheating.
