The Clemson football 7-step program to success
Nov 7, 2022, 2:26 PM
|
|
1. Let Dabo take the Alabama Hc job or go pro. Let’s face reality-we won’t get back to elite status if we don’t embrace NIL or the transfer portal. Dabo has refused to do any of that, which has definitely come back to hurt us in recent years. In addition, his coordinator hires have been absolutely abismal, and he needs to learn that there are good coordinators outside the program. There are rumors that Saban could retire as early as this year, so if he takes that job, we can start fresh and start our rebuild. I could also see him staying local and taking the panthers job.
2. Hire a coach who embraces NIL and the transfer portal. There are so many coaches who have used those to rebuild teams who have struggled in the past, such as Kansas’s Lance Leopold. If we get one of those coaches, we will get talent we have previously been missing out on.
3. Fire all alumni coaches minus Nick Eason. The new coach needs to undo all of the wrong Dabo has done, including getting rid of our coaches and coordinators that have hurt our performance, especially on offense.
4. Hire coaches and coordinators outside the program. It would be great if we could get Jeff Scott, Chad Morris, or Willy Korn as our OC. Those have been coaches that have Clemson connections outside the program that have been proven to be successful.
5. Tell all underperformers that they need to transfer or become backups. These include DJ, Klubnik, all of the WRs minus Williams, most of our O-Line, and most of our DBs.
6. Use the transfer portal to fill holes. We have missed out on filling holes through the transfer portal in years past, and that has made the holes even bigger. I would much rather have a transfer WR with experience starting over an underperforming WR like Ngata.
7. Embrace NIL for recruiting. We may lose some commits over the coaching changes, but if we embrace NIL and improve our NIL program, we could easily be one of the best recruiting programs in the country.
If we follow these 7 steps, I believe we will have success just like the 2015-20 years.

Relying on the NIL would be a disaster…
Nov 7, 2022, 2:29 PM
|

We need to use it as best we can with Clemson does not have the resources the alumni base or the money that many larger programs and larger schools are going to have. We need the best coaching staff getting the most out of the best recruits we can bring in. Right now we have a coaching staff full of people learning on the job.

True, but we also have a coach that heavily restricts NIL. If he left, we would at least do slightly better NIL wise.

Look, if you are a Clemson alum I’m expecting this is mostly venting and not your true beliefs. That’s fine. Message boards are for people to scream into the ether and I hope you feel better.
If Dabo left for Bama after this season, that would be a nightmare. Who would be the best replacement? Babers? Kiffin?
I’m fine wit canning the coordinators and brining in some big names, but that’s about all I can do-sign, other than optimism that we embrace the portal to add depth in the off-season.
Fighting in the center of the ring on NLE is a losing battle and will just get harder with the conference realignments. The incoming recruit class looks decent without big NLE checks, so that isn’t the root of the issue. It will make the gap at the top bigger, but an eventual playoff expansion will help keep us in the mix, even if we dip below a top 5 annual program.

Add Step # 8

8) Get rid of fans that get so bent out of shape over 1 loss, essentially asking that we get rid of the coach that made Clemson what it is today. It's fine to disagree with NIL stance, but basically asking to get rid of one of the most successful head coaches in the history of the game is ludicrous.

You've lost touch if you think getting rid of Dabo is going to make us better. Yes, I'm not happy with his hires either but to not allow him to fix it and just canning literally everything is not the answer. Embracing the transfer portal and NIL heavily like that while also throwing Dabo would be the biggest catastrophe in the history of college football. I do think we need to use the portal...some, not heavily. Propositions this extreme would be the death of our program for decades.

Teams like UGA, Ohio State, and Michigan, have relied on NIL and the portal heavily and have had great success over the past few years. As for Dabo’s hires, if we got rid of a coordator, odds are he would probably hire someone from inside the program just because he coached them. That’s what he’s done with Streeter, Spiller, Grisham, etc

They also have massive alumni bases with money I doubt Clemson will ever see, that's a sad reality of that. We can use NIL but it will never be like that and that's something we have to accept. Using the transfer portal heavily like that also can come with backlashes. There's just no need for it from us when we have the talent there already. Just use the portal to fill in some holes and get a player here or there. And to assume he's going to hire inside again is just that, assumptions. After the ND game I think he's realizing that mistake.
Let's see how the rest of the season and off season plays out before going to this extreme.

nice for you to learn. We have three national championships in football. Two are with Dabo as coach. You are a prime example of why many rally to Dabo's defense. You made some good points. However, your good points were obliterated by your asinine statement that we would be better off without Dabo.

Maybe cheaper for all the whiners to become Gamecock fans. We are 8-1 for crying out loud sake. Gonna play in the ACC championship game. If we win who knows what bowl or CFP game we may play. Dang! Folks tend to forget those years we played in lesser bowls and would get whuped. Being 79 years old I have not. Go Tigers
