Game Breakdown/Observations from an LSU Fan

Clemson has a great team and a great culture. While we are rivals, we should be respectful ones.
Note: I am not a coach or a qualified analyst.
--The Death Valley argument is dumb. Both are great venues. Who cares what we call it.
--Clemson had a good punt game. A lot of people (including Locked on Clemson) predicted that could make the difference. I think you all had a better punt game than we did.
--Dabo is a very smart coach. I don't know if I fully appreciated it. Setting that pick with the catch behind the line was a pretty smooth move.
--None of us outside of Clemson get the bus thing. But hey, we all have traditions. I do think the hill run is pretty cool.
--Losing Antonio Williams had to hurt. Our coverage looked great. But I have to think that your losing your best receiver made our secondary look better.
--I've read some stuff here about Dabo pulling a running back because he missed a block. It is hard to second guess a coach on discipline stuff, but you all could have used some better running.
--Along those lines, I really expected Cade to use his legs more. He tore off a couple of nice runs. I get that Harold Perkins, Jr. was spying him a lot, but I just thought that he would hurt us a lot more with his legs.
--Nuss had a good game, but he did not look as good as I thought he would.
--The incomplete pass in the end zone. I am hearing people, including Brian Kelly, say that this was incomplete by the letter of the rule. BK also said the officials followed the right protocols. If that is true, we need rule changes. That should be a TD under the rules.
--BK should have taken the points. He admitted it today. The analytics said go for it, but he was not taking the clock into account.
--You are crazy if you fire Dabo. It will cost you a fortune, and you will have a hard time finding anyone as good. That said . . . .
--Dabo HAS to embrace the portal more. I get that he invests in culture, but the new rules and NIL have just changed the game to the point that you really have no choice.
--I thought Clemson should have tried screens to offset the pressure. Clemson never made LSU pay for gambling on blitzes.
--If you all can put FSU away on 11/8, shouldn't you be ok?
--We will both get better. This game could have gone either way.
Good luck against Troy. We look forward to hosting you all in Baton Rouge in a year.

FYI, I get a look at the All 22 film tomorrow. I will add any observations I get from that. It seems you can always see things there that you don't get from seeing the broadcast.

Where can you watch the All 22 film?
It's a private event hosted by a local sportscaster. He has access to all of it.

Appreciate you taking the time to post that Tasso, all good points. I too thought we would run Cade more. Historically though it seems we tend to run our QB's more the second half of the season. Several LSU fans at the game were complementary of our DV, but like you said the whole thing is kind of dumb, both are great venues. You seem like a class act and good luck the rest of the year. Please beat the gamecocks.

Yes, beat them, unmercifully. As much as I hate to say it, I would expect a better offensive showing by them. Sellers may not be a great passer but is definitely a good runner.

Well said, good analysis. Can't disagree with anything you said, even the incomplete TD. There were at least 3 of almost exact circumstance and all were talked INC. I thought all should be TD's. The lack of screens, dumps, and QB running is inexplicable. The other Tigers have a good team, and I like the constant pressure. Hope they don't give up on that. Good luck rest of the way.

I’m with you on everything but the touchdown catch. It’s not a touchdown if you don’t have possession of the ball, and you don’t have possession of the ball if you don’t complete the catch, which includes surviving contact with the ground. TV crew got it way wrong and convinced America that LSU was robbed but that is pretty cut and dry to me.
I think questioning whether the 1st fumble was an incomplete pass is a fair debate, but I’m not for any rule that calls that play a touchdown.

Same here - you can score on an incomplete pass. The plane of the goal line doesn’t change that.

Classy post, much appreciated. We enjoyed hosting some LSU fans at our tailgate. We should meet more often, it was fun.
With all that said, you are too respectful. LSU kicked our teeth in. The score should/could have been worse, and I would think most would agree.
Congrats on the win and keeping it classy in victory. I hope LSU has a successful season and beats the Gamecocks by 54 points later in the season.

To explain "the bus thing" is quite simple. Long ago, Clemson didn't have a locker room in the stadium, so the team would dress in the Fike Field House, up the street a bit from the east endzone (the one with the large video board today). After getting dressed, they would come down the street and the fastest way to the field was to run down the hill in the east endzone.
When they added a locker room to the stadium, the only place they could put was the West endzone. There was no place to put it in the East endzone. Frank Howard mounted the Rock (an alumnus brought back to Coach Howard from Death Valley in California) on the top of the hill. To get the team from the locker room in the West endzone to the rock and running down the hill in the East endzone, buses were needed. Pretty simple development out of necessity.

Thank you for the well worded, respectful post. I’m not a big fan of other schools fans hanging out on a Clemson board, but if you continue to post thoughtfully and respectfully, I, for one , welcome you. I’ll be pulling for LSU. Looks like a darn good team to me, and hope we meet again in the playoff.

Pretty much everyone thinks the "completing the process of the catch" rules are stupid and bad for the game. I am not sure why the leagues don't listen to the fans on that. Most of this board thought that was a TD too. Possession + foot in bounds = catch seems like common sense.

Some very good observations and thank you for the kind words. Your game with LA Tech should be a good tune up for the Gators. Best wishes for the rest of the schedule.

Very generous and gracious comments. Not accurate, however. They kicked our ### in the 2nd half. Our coaching staff has a problem with games that have 2 halves. I don't think Dabo has embraced the sense of urgency that is required as the actual game evolves. Being able to adjust is critical to achieve a win and we fall pathetically short when it matters most. It is now a well established trend. At his Tues. presser, he is in obvious self denial- not good. You won't correct a problem if you don't fully recognize there is one. I hope I'm misreading him. Troy is going to be a lot more challenging than most people realize.

Can't disagree with any of that. My only comment is we don't have a true running back (who is ready)...wish we'd gone to the portal for one.

--If you all can put FSU away on 11/8, shouldn't you be ok?
At this moment, I would rate Georgia Tech as our toughest game. Why? Brent Key is building a culture of hard work and toughness.
If you look at opening weekend, the ACC will have some tough teams this year.
Other than GT, we have FSU, SMU, Louisville, and Duke as formidable games. Syracuse often plays out of their minds against us, so maybe them.
Good luck and I appreciate your kind comments.
