Said Clemson probably didn't want to be there after we played Tennessee in the Orange Bowl. Having missed out on the playoffs after a 1 point loss to our rival resulting in an Orange Bowl appearance instead of the playoffs was certainly very disappointing to our team. If it had been Bama that lost by 1 to Auburn that resulted in them missing the playoffs, it would have been talked about during the entire bowl game if they lost and used as an excuse for them. Oh well. I guess it just means more.

Exactly right! The point the OP is making is a correct one. Double-standard for narratives following a loss is grossly obvious!
They make a thousand excuses when an ACC school beats a Big 10 or Sorry Excuse Conference team.
Sad really; and shows a lack of vision in my opinion. Sticking basically to "that's what fanaticism tells us that these schools are better"! Give Georgia their flowers and Bama theirs and LSU when they basically had NFL offensive talent at every level. But, to act like the entirity of that conference is on that level is so far off base; it's not funny!

ESPN even had most of college football convinced that we lost to UNC the year we eventually went undefeated and beat Alabama by 28 and won the natty. They said we almost lost so many times for so long (eventually heard one or two pundits say we lost the game) that the causal college football fan thought we lost. The facts and actual results of the games get in the way of the narrative some times

… have to assume that at least some of the team “didn’t want to be there” … it’s a sad state of affairs.
It’s become CFP or bust, and we shouldn’t be surprised if players begin to opt out of playoff games in the future once expansion takes place.

I don’t think we will see many players opt out of playoff games, even with the expansion, but we will definitely see even more opt out of any bowl games not in the playoffs.

True, but it was always a given one the first playoffs were announced. If you're a known player who is guaranteed somewhat early pick, there is no need for playing in sme random bowl. Might as well focus on combines etc.

Not wanting to be there is playing in Boise or Annapolis or any other also ran bowl. A New Years 6 is not a I don't want to be here bowl.

Go ahead and drink the ACC Kool Aid. Everybody in college football knows it's almost as weak as water but you think it's really strong and dark colored in the glass. It's the grind in the SEC that wears you down. Over there you have one big game to stand in your way and you're set. Not so here. You guys like your conference and have no idea how hard it is over here. Maybe one day you can get over that stupid GOR you signed, come over here and experience the axis of where college football spins. Yes, it does mean more.

Clemson has to play more Top 10 teams than most schools this season.... as many as any SEC team unless one plays all 3 of UGA, LSU,and Bama.
