From Saturday Down South exec editor:

Dec 30, 2017, 1:27 AM

“Chris Wright, executive editor: For whatever reason — if you prefer dumb luck, fine — I’ve had a good feel for how Alabama will play in big games. I picked them to win the 2015 title against Clemson, lose the 2016 title to Clemson and lose to Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Check, check, check.

I think they’re going to blow out Clemson on Monday.

This Clemson team reminds me of the 2014 FSU team, a vastly inferior group compared with the 2013 national champions.

Kelly Bryant is perfectly fine, but let’s not pretend that Kelly Bryant is anything remotely close to Deshaun Watson. Clemson’s running back combo is good, but Wayne Gallman was electric. (Remember, Tavien Feaster was there last year, too, but got all of 37 carries.) Deon Cain will be in the NFL, but Mike Williams, Jordan Leggett and Artavis Scott already are.

Clemson’s defense is statistically dominant, but you have to consider the competition. The ACC’s best effort this season came at the podium during Media Day. FSU tanked. Louisville wasn’t anything special. The Coastal, per custom, didn’t put up a challenge.

Angry Alabama is the most dangerous Alabama of all. In Jalen I trust. Give me the Tide, 34-17.”

Heres a dirty little secret: 2017 Bama < 2016 Bama.***

against Bama's offense. He'll probably take a peek at that part of the game and get back to us again tomorrow.

Some people amaze me with the thoughts rattling in their heads. What really leaves me perplexed is that they feel confident in sounding like a complete moron.

This guy has lost his pair of grapes and swallowed a banana.

"But you have to consider the competition"

Did he? I see a common opponent. Auburn.

I see one team that struggled with every team they played that wasn't a complete patsy.

Did he REALLY consider the competition?

Appreciate the share, ad I don’t read a lot of these rags, and their pundit’s expert analysis. For any that may be familiar with his past articles, is this guy typically an sec koolaid drinker? Sounds like one. Well, except for his brilliance in picking the Tigers last year. Not that it matters, but curious. Sure not going to take time to look at/into his archives. Agree with ClemTig he possibly has his crimson glasses on.

Well, our Tigers have been underestimated and had their doubters in EVERY game thus far, why should it change? Especially now, playing Darth Saban and facing the Imperial Tide...

... next it will be against a coach who is the ‘New Messiah’, and the team with the Greatest Offense EVER’ (courtesy of WCCP’s Qualkenbush y’day), or the ‘Vaunted (sec) Defense and Greatest RB trio’ of Georgia.

PLEASE HCDS and Co, will you SHUT UP THESE ANNOYING ‘experts’ one more time?! Well, at least for the week or two until they stop talking this year’s natty, and start in with their ‘expert’ analysis and their ‘way too early’ top 25 for ‘18....

...lemme guess: we’ll be 8 or 9 (because “we lost the DL that was the ONLY reason we were any good this year), and the top 6 or 7 or so will be bama, 0-31-O State, uga, Michigan, Auburn, LSU.... possibly fsu or Miami...

About Chris Wright...

Dec 30, 2017, 6:56 AM

Predicted 2016 order of finish in the SEC:

Chris Wright, Executive Editor

East: 1. Tennessee, 2. Georgia, 3. Florida, 4. Kentucky, 5. Missouri, 6. Vanderbilt, 7. South Carolina.

West: 1. LSU, 2. Ole Miss, 3. Alabama, 4. Texas A&M, 5. Auburn, 6. Arkansas, 7. Mississippi State.
Boy really good on that one.

Prediction of SEC Championship game 2017:

"Auburn 31, Georgia 20 if Johnson is healthy. Auburn 20-17 if he isn’t."
Really great there too Chris.
But, in his defense he was correct on Clemson-Alabama last year and Auburn-Alabama this year.

This is a guy who apparently knows nothing about football

Dec 30, 2017, 7:58 AM

Nobody in the country is blowing this team out. One, our offense is more conservative which limits potential turnovers and bad field position. Two, we have arguably the best defense in Clemson history. When they decide you're not scoring, then you're not scoring. That Bama offense doesn't worry me in the slightest.

34-17 Clemson

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hmmmm lets see...

Dec 30, 2017, 8:50 AM [ in reply to Re: From Saturday Down South exec editor: ]

Common opponent in Auburn. Good guys win AND Etienne barely saw the field. The only other offense that Bama faced remotely close to the style Clemson runs (other than Auburn) was Mississippi State. Bama won but probably shouldnt have. Oh...and if anyone thinks MSU could stay on the field with clemson for more than a half is delusional.
Much has been made about the tide getting "healthy" too. Questions...what about Big Dex? Tre Lamar? Kendall Joseph? Marcus Edmond? Mitch Hyatt? Tanner Muse? Not much discussion there huh?
I could be way off base but I think that Clemson is just better. Comparing what each team brings on each side of the ball I think the Tigers are just more talented and deeper. All the games that Clemson didn't "dominate" they spent getting second and third team guys meaningful reps. I cannot stress enough how valuable that is NOW. It won't be a blowout but I think Clemson wins and in convincing fashion.

Re: Hmmmm lets see...

Dec 30, 2017, 8:58 AM [ in reply to Hmmmm lets see... ]

The national narrative is that Bama was slowed by injuries. Clemson was playing a WR at DB due to injuries. I don't think Bama used Scarborough at LB once this year. We started a QB that couldn't walk one game. Do you think ESPN noticed?

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What I don't understand

Dec 30, 2017, 9:14 AM

is the perpetual love for Bama. I mean I do, but I don't. In a sane world how does Bama attain a playoff spot if they started the year ranked where say UGa was? Even if they got to the Auburn game and were ranked 3rd or 4th do they have ANY shot of getting in? I don't think so...
Obviously I am biased but I just don't think Bama is as good as CU. Im not so sure they beat UGa or OU either. I think the fact that Jalen Hurts will have the game laid upon his shoulders and more specifically his ability to win by throwing is their death nail.

His "vastly inferior" comment proves one thing

Dec 30, 2017, 9:28 AM

He hasn't actually watched Clemson play this year.

The SDS crowd is the model for what we see every day in the coot mindset. They only watch SEC teams play each other and they assume they are seeing the best recruited and best coached players in the world from top to bottom. When a team from another conference beats one of their top teams, it's a fluke, a flash in the pan or a one year phenomenon. No one can sustain excellence unless they are part of the mighty SEC.

Very predictable group there.
