Swinney whittles, then announces his plan of attack: "We will respond"
Deep underneath the Louisiana Superdome early Tuesday morning, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney sat on a podium and answered questions about his team’s loss to LSU in the National Championship. Yes, the loss bothered him. Yes, he was disappointed for the fans, for his coaches, and his players. But he was whittling away, waiting for the dawn of another day. Appreciate the Grant anecdote, enjoying Civil War history as I do. I'm sure Dabo and company will roll up their sleeves and get working immediately. Should be a terrific 2020 season. GoooooTigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe it will be also, and I'm looking forward to it, and I hope that I'm still here to see it bc it's going to be a barn burner, and in 3 weeks our coaches led by Dabo will start striking some matches to get our guys to blazing and have that fire really hot by the time we kickoff next season in late August or early September... Go Tigerssss, set the course for beating up on the college FB world in 2020!!!!!

If I remember correctly (pls correct me if I got it wrong), Coach always outlines five objectives for the year: Win the first, win the Division, win the State, win the Conference, then the Natty. In the last two years, Clemson football is nine for ten. An “A”! Wow! Double Wow! I’m still so proud of my school & these ”Sons of Dear Old Clemson”!

CDS has spoken a lot about his team goals in interviews on Podcasts and what not. The last goal is “win the bowl game,” definitely not win the natty or the last game. He talks a lot about this. He specifically says his goal is not to win the national championship every year. Rather it’s to maximize each teams potential, which he freely acknowledges does not always reflect a national championship caliber team.
In one interview he says winning the second bowl game (in the CFB) is “gravy on top,” adding something to the effect that if you get that far, everybody knows what the goal is and how important it is.

So what equates to Johnston's death in this analogy?

Johnston might have put that whittling knife up Grant's a$$ has he not bled to death during the attack.

Agreed, not too keen on the usage of William Sherman in a favorable analogy. The same Sherman who ordered his troops to wage war on civilians by robbing, ###### and burning.

The rest of the Pittsburg Landing battle story. It was expected after the first day that Grant would retreat across the Tennessee River. However, he was reinforced by three northern divisions overnight and sprung a surprise counterattack at daybreak leading to a retreat by the Confederate Army. The number 1 recruiting class should give General Sweeney the force he needs to counterattack.

Congrats to the Tigers for a fantastic year. With that said, it seems to me that Coach did not have the same fire for this game this year. I can't prove it but my feelings started with the ESPN interview just before the game. It seems like Coach thought LSU was the better team and was going to win before the game started. I am sure i am wrong.
What i would like to know is if anyone has gotten a reason why they decided after Etienne scored the TD in the 3rd quarter at the 10 minute mark to close the gap to 3, they stopped calling his number for the rest of the game?

You’ll have to ask Tony Elliott. I often can’t figure out what he’s doing or why, like when it’s 3rd and 2, and he’ll have TL in the shotgun with receivers running 20-30 yard routes while getting blitzed.

Shameful analogy to compare Dabo Swinney to yankee generals Grant & Sherman. Sherman burned several South Carolina cities to the ground and laid waste to much of the state..Grant's presidency oversaw the reconstruction years that forced South Carolina into poverty and a depression that remains in parts of the state even today. I enjoy and support the TigerNet, but this was a bad choice. Hood would have been better served using Schwarzenegger's "I will be back."

Dabo's always got a plan. I'm not worried at all and wherever the national title game is to be played next year, you might as well go ahead and get the arrangements taken care of such as hotels, tickets or whatever else.
Clemson just signed one of the more impressive recruiting classes I've ever seen and even though they will be young kids next season, they are guaranteeing that Clemson remains on top. Not so sure about teams like LSU without a Joe Burrow to come in and save them. Clemson will be back and over and over again.

I've been studying the Civil War for some 40 years, and DHood needs to study it also. Grant and Sherman always had overwhelming numbers, but neither was a good combat general. In early 1864, Grant's army suffered 52,000 casualties during his first month battling Gen Lee, and he did not defeat Lee in any battle during that entire year. Grant had twice Lee's numbers and unlimited supplies while Lee's supplies were day to day.

Cute article but will you please ask Dabo or his OC(s) why we abandoned the run? Averaging 5+ yards a carry!!! Dixon missing in action?? Go get the story for us David or your team!! Ask the questions that need to be asked!!! Galloway two great catches and that was all we saw from him...why? Where was Chad SmitH??? C'mon do your jobs!!!

aren't of the caucasian race, and regardless of whatever the analogy my man D. Hood was making YOU GUYS STILL GET THE GOT D@MN POINT, RIGHT??? I mean my God! I was born and raised a proud Clemson Tiger but SOME of these fans on here need to get a grip AND QUICK! Talkin about specifics and #### about the Civil War, D. Hood was trying to make something intended to be encouraging and heartfelt for the fanbase but some yall made into bull$#it. Grow tf up. Be mindful of others on this long established and well respected website, please and thank you...but back to the TRUE subject at hand...
We definitely go on the offensive next season. No "lil ole Clemson" for us next year imo. I FULLY expect to be in the national championship game if not win the natty next season. I didn't expect us to win the whole thing this year, but with this recruiting class arsenal coming in, on top of our 80 freshmen and sophomores, we are gonna do major damage. This season has truly been special and well exceeded my personal expectations and we shouldn't hang our heads whatsoever because "the meek shall inherit the earth." GO TIGERS!!!

Not necessarily about race but making scenarios on 'what could have been' kind of let's you know some of the ignorance of some people. But I truly understand your point and I apoligize if my point was misinterpreted to saying anything about race. I was just speaking on some of the comments about particulars and are losing sight of the meaning of the article. That's all. I love this sight and you guys, been here for a while...but some of the comments just struck something in me. Nonetheless, Go mf Tigers!

lighten up on the Civil War analogies. Football ain't war, as anybody who has actually been to war can tell you. The first thing winners do is fix their problem areas. Clemson's were exposed but the biggest question going forward is how Lawrence will respond. Overthrowing receivers downfield was a season-long problem for him, and the weak schedule that often saw him pulled in the third quarter didn't help him in the NC.
