For Rivalry Week, I recall your attention to the most Iconic

Nov 23, 2021, 4:22 PM

moment ever in the Alabama-Auburn rivalry, which is certainly one of, if not the biggest in the country. It is receding into history now, so let me refresh your memories of the circumstances at the end of the 2013 version of THE IRON BOWL.

Alabama threw a desperation pass out of bounds trying to advance into makeable field goal range on the last play of regulation. Or at least it WAS the last play of a tie game in regulation, until Saban lobbied and browbeat the officiating crew until they finally put ONE SECOND back on the clock. This, so he could attempt a 57 yard field goal to steal the game and not go to OT. And the rest, as they say, is HISTORY. I would just about guarantee, if Saban could change one coaching decision he ever made, it would be that one.

"Davis gets a block! Davis gets another block!" Immortal. I will bet you that Chris Davis will never have to pay for an alcoholic beverage the entire rest of his life as long as he is in the company of at least one Awbarn fan. :)

That was fantastic, thanks for sharing. Slim chance, but hope Auburn can repeat that this week.

I was watching that and couldn't believe that play. Had

to call my cousins in Mobile, who were huge Bama fans.

Their son and his family were all Auburn. When I asked him what he was going to say to his son, he said, "I'm not gonna speak to that sh*tasss and his kids. To He1l with em!"

Still laugh when I think of that.

brother lived for about ten years in Birmingham. He said they don't play around in that rivalry, it's a blood feud.

Even as a totally outside of it fan, I still can't believe what Harvey Updike did to those trees in Toomer's Corner several years ago. Just totally, completely detached from reality, and deranged behavior as a result.

I like the call of the late Rod Bramblett who was Voice of the Auburn Tigers in Football,Basketball and Baseball before his death at the age of 53 and also the Auburn Tiger Band's reaction on the 56 yard miss field goal and then when Chris Davis ran it back 100 yards for the game winning TD...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgQjW4B_5c8

I don't care about this supposed "announcer neutrality" BS.

Nov 23, 2021, 6:19 PM

That is the EXACT reaction I want from my home team announcer.

"HE RAN THE MISSED FIELD GOAL BACK! HE RAN IT BACK 109 YARDS! YOU'RE NOT GONNA KEEP 'EM OFF THE FIELD TONIGHT! OH, MY GOD!"

My only regret about our two most recent Nattys is that Jim Phillips was not around to see them, or call them. To me, he will always be the definitive Voice of the Tigers. Just as Mr. Bob Fulton, whom I greatly respected, will always be the real Voice of the Gamecocks. Toad Ellis couldn't qualify to lick his boots.

Heck, I have cousins that have gone to O310 and others to the Michigan weasels. They laugh at our rivalry until I ask them "When has your fans almost started shooting at each other?" No response.
