On the defense being "under control"...

I'm rewatching the game, and they were absolutely dominant throughout 3/4 of the first quarter and then they held NCSt. at 24 for a long time. Venables was correct to say that they "had it under contol," at least for a large part of the game. NCSt. had something like 30 yards of offense almost until the second quarter. We just have to keep the ball in front of us and not give up the big play.
Of course, that's nothing new.

have to have someone kick it thru the endzone....otherwise squib it or h3ll kick it out of bounds. Need to keep it out of Sanders & Ellington's hands on KO & punts.

If Oregon/OU/Baylor/WV puts up 600 yards on us then I can believe you, but NCST team that got trounced by UVa last week is NOT Anywhere near as good as those.

Football isn't a 3/4 Qtr game, its a 4 Qtr game

We can say we beat FSU because we were up on them till the middle of 3rd Qtr.

...and when Clemson got the lead back......

...VB knew the defense was in a good enough position, that even if they only got a few stops it would be enough to win the game. So, the D was in control in the context of how the game unfolded...

Our DBs bite bad on play action and the 1st cut of routes..

but our biggest issue is getting almost zero pressure on the QB.

for once, I actually agree with you

we could take a lesson from the coot D. They use pressure on the QB to help out the DBs. Once we began blitzing and bringing consistent pressure, our D improved significantly. I would prefer to have a stronger secondary, but if blitzing works, I guess I'll take it.

I don't know the Xs and Os as well as some here.....

...but why couldn't we assign a LB to keep an eye on Shaw? Shaw has definite tendencies which seem to me to be his downfall in certain games...

IMHO our front 4 are good, but they arent dominate yet. I think BV has to blitz more than he would like to and good QB's exploit the crap out of it. Soooo, I guess the best part about this iiiis...... Our offense is amazing!! lol
