"Lack of explosiveness"?

Show me another TE in the nation who made big plays as consistently as Dwayne Allen. What a joke of an article.

Allen was the top TE in the country because he's too fast for LBs and too big for DBs. He's a matchup nightmare even at the next level and if he doesn't go first round, then something is wrong and he'll have been screwed just like Bowers was last year.

Your analysis is spot on.

The NFL is craving this sort of athlete right now. Look at Jimmy Graham, Vernon Davis, and Rob Gronkowski. Really athletic TEs are where it's at, and I think Dwayne Allen could have a GREAT career.

Completely agree...except I think you mean Jimmy Graham.

The only thing is that Vernon Davis is the most athletic tight end in football. He hasn't produced as much as I thought he would, but he hasn't had consistent QB play until this year.

TE is a coveted position currently and he fits the mold perfectly.

Not to mention his ability to go up and get the ball like he did several times over his career.
I mean just his two TD's in the ACCCG alone were spectacular plays.
In the first TD catch he broke tackles and fought to the end zone and in the second TD catch he made an athletic diving play.
For him not to be the first TE taken would be a travesty and a shame.

Maybe they looked at film during the time he was hampered by turf toe. His season would have been even better but for that.

I could see the Patriots drafting Andre Branch.

A really good pass-rusher (probably New England's biggest need) who will still be on the board late in the first round. But yeah, his omission is another WTH moment in this piece...

I think I heard they had a WR that they changed to DB and started? Secondary is probably their biggest concern.

Couple questions on Allen.

IS he really 6'4"?
And... if he could come in with a 4.6 40 yd dash or better, that would help him alot. IMO #21

Aaron Hernandez is 6'2'' and he's doing just fine in New England. But he also slipped to the 4th round because of his lack of size even though he ran in the low 4.6s. I agree if he measures in at atleast 6'4'' and maybe some change he could move into the late first but tight ends aren't usually high picks. Gronkowski was considered one of the best TEs two years ago and fell to the second round. Vernon Davis was a first rounder but at 6'4'' 260 with 4.4 speed I don't see how he couldn't be a first rounder, guy is a freak.
I agree that he does get overhyped a bit but he's a big body with good speed and hands and that's what NFL teams are looking for. I would love to see him end up in Indy or something. Him and Andrew Luck, that would be a pretty sweet rookie combo.

Andre Branch is greatly over rated by most Clemson fans. He's good but shouldn't even be in the discussion of first round picks. He was great against VT, but he would disappear for complete games. Not to mention he is a bit undersized in weight and build.

I was just thinking that they are severely undermizing Dwayne. Prove them all wrong and good luck at the next level!
