First, Clemson football doesn't share enough money with...

basketball to help that program be successful. Now it looks like football isn't sending enough money to the baseball program to help with scholarship issues. So our football program just gets to keep the majority of the money it earns? Can someone please explain to me how this is acceptable? I thought we were all on the same team here.

Redistribution of wealth is wrong no matter what. When I can start charging confused visiting fans $20 to park in someone else’s parking spot for baseball and basketball games, those teams can get a bigger piece of the pie.

IPTAY, for one

IPTAY is sincerely unique. It's not a coincidence it's arguably the best funding arm in the nation.
Part of what makes it so unique is how the money is distributed & collected. While it's not unique to Clemson for donors to contribute only to a certain sport or department, it's vastly dependent on it due to the nature of IPTAY.
Coach Swinney, don't forget, was an incredibly successful real estate pro before he came here to coach. In fact, he was considered one of the best in the state. His ability to convince people to invest was paramount.
Then he brought that here to Clemson. Make no mistake, Dabo's ability to convince our eager donors to spend vastly more than ever before was an absolute coup, & the results are just as inescapable.
I'm certainly over-simplifying it a bit, but an awful lot of that extra revenue generated by football has consequently gone into the SCHOOL, too. I get that many don't care about that, but Clemson University has been changed forever as an accredited school thanks to the football success.
In other words, don't "blame" football, so to speak.

Clemson has been financially great for ages now, agreed.

I agree.
Judge, I certainly didn't mean to even suggest Clemson University wasn't doing exceptionally well before Dabo Swinney came to town. To be explicit, Clemson University was financially elite in terms of ROI, attendance, tuition, et al., and more to the point, IPTAY itself was still arguably the most competitive funding arm in college sports.
My point was only how vastly the funds improved & deliberately changed thanks largely to Coach Swinney & his work with our donors.
The results are inescapable (& public), but I think there's simply a general misunderstanding that "Clemson" revenue all goes into one giant pot & THEN the money gets distributed to (or away from) certain things. It's not completely untrue, but in general the order is simply reversed, that's all.
In other words, a lot of where the revenue goes is already dependent on where the donations were originally intended.
Frankly I'd love to see us build a medical campus, even veterinary medicine, but no matter how unlikely that is I'll always be grateful for the incredible financial growth at Clemson thanks largely to football. Always.

Maybe when the players start earning hundreds of thousands of dollars for their likeness the college can implement a new player tax. Call it the “athletic programs poverty tax” or APPT for short. This would most certainly help redistribute the wealth that the capitalist football program hoards for itself.

Now I know what Dabo meant by ALL IN. He must have been referring to the football revenue. For it to stay ALL IN the football program. Man that guy never stops amazing me.

When I was at Clemson I played club sports
May 26, 2021, 10:29 AM

Because there were rumors of varsity athletes receiving benefits, like scholarships and free room and board. I preferred the true and unsullied status of student athlete and proudly did not try out for any of the varsity sports. Our club was funded by the university for uniforms and travel, and we knew part of this money was coming from football revenue. Really felt like we were sticking it to the man!

I need/deserve fan money. I pay IPTAY and have for years. Funny is in my day that actually meant $10. It was excellent marketing way ahead of it's time.

Many years ago I had a friend on the library staff. One day he went off on a rant about football getting all the money and the library didn't get one cent. I asked him if the library had ever developed a plan to seek money from alumni and friends of Clemson. His reply was "not that he was aware of one". I told him if the library would show the need for more money, he would be amazed at the response. If you don't ask for help, your chances of getting help is very slim.
