of the second round. Given the redshirt year, the risk of injury, having a great year and being named first team All-ACC and his dramatic shooting improvement, there is very little upside from a draft standpoint in returning.

the kid's decision is not a "draft decision" -
it's a "career decision",
and this kid is nowhere near ready to make the pros a career.
He can't create off the bounce, disappears at times for long spells, has no definitive post moves, is suspect, at best, on the defensive side, and
for his height, is not consistent enough on the boards.
To boot, the risk of permanent injury is little to nothing,
unless he wants to go riding motorcycles like Duke's Jay Williams, lol.
The naysayers are all holding their breath and hoping JB leaves -
not because it's best for JB,
but for the hope it destroys what would be Brownell's last team.
What an effin' bunch of losers.....

I think he still has ways to go in consistent outside NBA shooting (big difference) and the off the bounce aspect of his game before he's ready to be a pro that avoids the D-League.
Sure, he had a great year last year. But the previous 2 years he shot a combined roughly 20% from 3-point range. College 3 point range. Another year of displaying his improvements there would help him a lot.
I also am not sure how he'll ever take anyone off the bounce at this point in the NBA. So I'm worried about him being able to score.
If he's slotted as a 2nd round pick, then he has plenty of reason to come back. Ask Buddy Hield, who was in that exact position last year. Not saying JB will come back and win the Wooden Award, but I think saying there's "very little upside" in returning is misguided.

plus he has excellent size and athleticism for a two guard. With 18 pts per game and first team All-ACC, I doubt he could do much more than he did this year to prove himself. He could possible duplicate those accomplishments, but a repeat of last year really doesn't improve his draft stock enough to justify playing another year without pay.
Other than team goals, there really isn't much more he can do.

I agree that he probably won't have a much better year, if we're only looking at stats. Besides shooting consistency. So far, he's shot 20%, 29%, and 45% from 3. That's questionable. Whereas 20, 29, 45, and say 38 would show that he's made a consistent improvement and changed that part of his game. He could also develop range, because he won't sniff the 30's right now as an NBA 3-point shooter. Also, I assume you meant 3-guard, because he's in no way a 2. I don't see how NBA teams could use him guarding 3's anyways.
Which presents another area he can improve: lateral quickness. He can't guard NBA 3's right now. It won't happen.
Regardless, I respect your opinion but I just disagree. I think there are plenty of things he can do to make himself a better option in the NBA, and a lot of them may not be seen on a stat sheet.

on the wing. He's a SF at the next level. He needs to learn to handle the ball much better and be a better distributor as well. He came a long way last year, but to play in the NBA, he has miles to go.
His decision is where does he want to develop his game, at Clemson or in the D-League, as he wont be on an NBA roster next year. I think it's more and more likely he returns

honestly have little idea howJB would do at a guard position....but to be a 2 OR a 3 in the league, he's got a long way to go (and he had a spectacular year in 2015/20116) and I believe it'll take more than one season for him to get the ball handling, working against defensive players as fast as he is off the dribble part of his game down...though he has certainly shown he's capable of levels of improvement in a short period of time its probably asking too much of him to make a jump from PF to SG so quickly......the thing is, should he return for his last season of eligibility, not sure he'd be playing in a scheme that would focus on improving those type skills
Whatever he decides, he's eventually going to be making a decent living playing basketball

he's a stretch four to begin with, so that's not a difficult thing scheme wise. They did it last year, he just wasn't as effective as he could have been when they set him up in iso. That's his next step offensively.
In hindsight, in spite of the money, KJ would have benefited developmentally coming back. JB knows this. He sees a Heild and what he did his senior year. A Grayson Allen returning who was rated over him. The draft camps could change things, but I see him back as of now

He had a great year this past season, but he has no business going pro unless he is happy proving himself in Europe or the NBDL. He will have a much tougher road to the NBA that way, as opposed to returning for his senior year to improve his deficiencies and be a legitimate guaranteed first round pick.
Currently, he is a "tweener" who is neither a true PF nor a true SF. He lacks the bulk, post moves, and rebounding ability of a true PF, yet lacks the quickness, ball handling skills, and defensive ability of a true SF. His best bet is to return to school, because consensus seems to be that he will not be a first round pick this year.
I realize that he could get injured this year if he returns. I know that next year's class is deeper. But I can't help but think about the much better situation he will likely be in this time next year after another first team all-ACC selection and likely NCAA Tournament performance. He would also probably get a number of votes for ACC player of the year, if not win it.
The temptation of going to the NBA now is great, but hopefully maturity and a realistic point of view will prevail.
