Play Steward, Play Townsend, and Play Blanks at safety

How can any coach in America think that Wright is better than Steward? Look at the difference b/t the first half with Wright and the second half with Steward.
I safetys have been taking horrible angles. Try Blanks back there.
Townsend? give him a shot. We can't do any worse.

Hope Venables agrees. Blanks and Steward can change everything with their athleticism. Go Tigers. This game means so much. If Florida State breaks scoreboard Clemson's recruiting is screwed for next several years. Florida State will own the ACC for 5 years if they win handily Saturday.

Brent is not happy. But I'm happy that he's not happy. He's not making excuses for his players or the product on the field. He's going to make our players own up to what they are doign wrong or play someone else ahead of them if they don't shape up.
Unless I'm wrong he was very hard on Chrsitian the past few weeks and started blanks over him today. Chrsitian seemed to play harder today as a result.

Furman scored 32 on Fla last year. Every fcs or mid major team I saw yesterday hung with their opponent for a half. A lot of talent to go around and guys playing with chips on their shoulder and that holds up for a half. Heck the SEC east has lost 2 games to them and Auburn took an over time. UAB looked preety good for the first half

Sure we don't KNOW for sure how we'll do but we have to go on what we've seen so far.... and it has been mediocre at best.
If you can honestly look @ the last 2 weeks performance on d and NOT be fearful for next Sat. night, I'd be very surprised. That's the nicest way I can say it.
Ball State and Furman ? and AU is very average.
I certainly hope we play differently Sat night.

Clemson is getting killed on gap control, but doesn't that start on the line?
I heard too much that these two were going to be fantastic, but what is giving way here? Seems like most of the complaining is coming from the linebacker side of the ball.

Venables knows what he is doing. He is lulling FSU into a false sense of greatness only to stomp their heads in the ground and cut their nuts off! The Criminoles won't score 20 points on us. #### right I feel confident. Tired of hearing all this #### about our D. They will man up and make us proud! GO TIGERS!

Venables "lulling" Fla. State??? Have you watched our "defence" over the past three games? Did you happen to watch the Noles demolish Wake Forest today? I think Coach V., much more so than Dabo, is trying to prepare us for the reality that next Saturday night is going to be a long and embarrassing one for us. Telling it like it is doesn't constitute dumping on our D. They do a good enough job of that themselves---and unfortunately they'll very likely leave a pile of it on the field next Saturday.

Yeah I watched them demolish a team on the same level as Ball State basically. Wake is not good period. If FSU beats us by 50 then yeah I will say we are screwed and they are that good. Until then I will put my money on BV and Clemson.

It's easy to see what is happening on the "D". 2 issues. For the secondary, the coverage is way too soft. They're getting left in their shoes on curl routes and slants. They do pretty good defending streaks. More evidence of this is when the defense tightens up in the red zone, less field to zone cover, more men in a smaller area, better defense.
The issue with the run is that the Tigers are not wrapping them up and taking them to the ground. I saw way too many yards gained in the last 3 games after the point of initial contact. The defense is going for the BIG HIT, lowering their shoulder into the ball carrier as if to knock him off his feet - what is happening however, is the ballcarrier is bouncing off them for at least an additional 3 yards. If the defender can not get them to the ground, then he needs to hold onto the ballcarrier and wait for the calvary.
All in all - it is not the scheme that is making the defense suck, it is the discipline of the individual players.
I even watched Anthony get burned by not wrapping up defenders yesterday - and Anthony and Blanks seem to be the most disciplined kids on that side of the ball.

Couldn't agree more. I saw way too many yards after contact yesterday. Seems like it often took 3 or 4 guys to finally bring the guy down. Seems like either poor tackling technique or lack of size/strength.

Actually, I remember watching the Oklahoma /FSU game last year and thinking - "I wish we had a defense as mean as that".
I was shocked and elated that we got BV. The breakdown is with the players vision and discipline. Those "intangibles" the coaches are always talking about. They're playing too soft and lack intuition.
This is the sort of thing that can only be overcome with recruiting. Some of the kids have it, but we need some key people in every tier of the defense to really become a force.
I am very happy with Travis Blanks and Stephone Anthony as well as Beasley stepping up.

We had 385 yards rushing against Wake on Saturday. I expect no less than 450 against the Clemson defense. This is going to be one of the longest weeks of the season, waiting in anticipation of this Nationally televised Gameday Saturday in Tallahassee. Welcome all Clemson fans.

As I told the guy sitting beside me at the game - our defense tired out the Furman offense keeping them on the field that long. Maybe that is our plan.
seriously - i sure hope we can run the ball this week better than we did saturday. I knew our defense was an issue - but the lack of making holes for ellington is just as bad.
