Did I miss something? I thought the SEC just released a statement in last few days that they were going to stay with the number of conference teams for now.

I think that was an insider's opinion.

No, the SEC did not release any official statement.

Some "rumor" purported that the SEC was currently done with inviting any new teams to the conference. Obviously, since we haven't heard anything official lately, it's a good possibility they don't want to stir the pot right now (i.e., let rumors start to fly before they have done all their research and figured out their way forward.)

Does anyone expect them to say "Yeah were in the process of raiding another conference"? lol. All the recent moves have been kept in the dark.

any kind of oficial denial from anybody rumored to be involved is very telling. If Clemson wanted to put the rumors to bed once and for all, they could have done it long ago, or last week, or yesterday, or today. One has to believe that if there is nothing to it, any reporter could simply ask anyone from Clemson, say Dabo or Neff, and they could simply say, "I can tell you flat out, no, we have not been contacted by the SEC and are not considering leaving the ACC. All such rumors are total hogwash." And that would be it. It would be very simple, very easy, and there would be no reason not to do that, and plenty of reason to do it.
There would be nothing preventing them from making such statements or something similar, unless (A) Clemson really is considering leaving the ACC and joining the SEC, or (B) they want to use the possibility that they may jump to the SEC as leverage for a better deal or strengthening of the ACC.
I have no idea how it will all play out, or if anything will change at all, but I think we can safely rule out the idea that this is all just made up hype and rumor. Something big is definitely going on behind closed doors.
