OVER $300 IN CLOTHES.
I went shopping yesterday because I realized I need to up my wardrobe as head ball inflator after attending a meeting last week in Columbia where I was the only one in a golf shirt.
I SPENT $365 DOLL HAIRS ON TWO SHIRTS AND A PAIR OF JEANS
Also I now might be gay since the shirts are Vineyard Vines and they are tigermanac®'s favorite.
But cotdamn I feel like I'm wearing a screen door.
So the fit is Johnson and Murphy leather dress boots $125
Geometrical long socks, idk like $20 for a pack of 5
Some kind of dress pants, don't remember the brand $65
Hanes charged cotton undershirt with the v neck $30 for the pack
Vineyard Vine button down performance cotton $135
With a belk sports coat hanging in my office bathroom $100

everything from suits to jeans and sport coats.
My advice is to spend the most money on the shoes and the sport coat, then pants and last shirts. There are brands that sell nice performance shirt on sale in the ~$50-60 range.... Bylt, Collars & Co are two that he likes right now.
Everything is trending more casual. I had a meeting with our superintendent last week and he was wearing a sport/performance button down, pants and dressy sneakers.

KMS nailed it.
Coat, pocket squares/ties and shoes. I wear all kinds of different lower cost pants/tops with the high end coats and shoes. Its definitely the way to go.

in Gucci loafers, no one he deals with can tell the difference between $125 Johnston & murphys and $500 Allen Edmonds and if they can they will judge him for wearing them

I haven't bought anything since retiring, except for three t-shirts.
A couple of weeks ago, an ad for a Cramps t-shirt on clearance for $7.00 popped up on my phone. Free shipping, so I ordered it. Last week, an Ozzy t-shirt and an Alice Cooper t-shirt both popped up on my phone, $7.00 each and free shipping. Pulled the trigger again and they should be here this week. With taxes, I'm like $24 in for my 2025 wardrobe.

Howler Brother's Board shorts, got them on sale for like $40 Patagucci undies, maybe $15 on sale Widespread Panic concert tee from 2023, maybe $30 in the lot, possibly $25, I was a little blitzed. Howler Brother's orange waffle hoodie, sale for maybe $40 Hari Mari Flip Flops, these were probably $50-$60

I'm all-in the custom / tailored sport coat bandwagon. looks so much better than anything off a rack. mine are usually in the $1500 - $2k range. but fresh as absolute fugggggggg
I stick w/ the Brooks Bros shirts. They fit me well, travel well, look good enough. I only snag these when they're running a sale...4 for $200 or something like that.
Got a little crazy on the QZs haha. Peter proud of his shid but they're fresh AF.
Pants...depends on the destination: - Customer Site / Plant - Jeans. I'm rockin Origin these day (made in murica) - Customer Site / Plant - Khakis. Lulu's - Conferences / Corporate setting - slacks. Brooks bros (these are so friggin overpriced)
I wear the RedWing chelseas when going to sites / casual, or my ColeHaan leather / sneaker looking things. These are so comfortable.
Sometimes I'll rock the Tecovas rubber sole boots I got, but they ain't as comfy as my others, so usually don't rock these through airports.
Speaking of, you left off the belt bro...gotta get a fresh belt to match the ####.

That said, I was raised to look decent while in public - meaning you'll never see me out in bedroom shoes or stained sweatpants or torn up jeans like seems 75% of people now prefer. I'm gonna look decent wherever I go, even a quick trip to the grocery store on a Saturday morning.
I'll pay premium for quality but I stress comfort and durability over "trend" or "style", function over flair.
Shoes - money no object. That's my thing, nice shoes. It's how you judge a person, what shoes he/she wears.

This Sierra Trading store, it hits a sweet spot for me. It has clothes I like AND are brand name and durable. AND cheap. As long as it stays open, I'm set. Prolly gonna do most of my clothes shopping there from now on. And still buy top-line footwear.

workwear has changed SO MUCH during my career

my whole career I've been an engineer/construction site manager in some capacity. When I started, I wore suits and ties many days in the office, but Carhartt-type stuff on days I knew I would be climbing ladders or doing dirty sitework. But the shift in-between over the years has been stark.
One of my early jobs I worked at a major airport and the bossman was a retired 4-star Army general... He REQUIRED shirt and tie dress code everyday because we mingled with the flying public. I ruined many a nice shirt (& even ties) down in a ditch on an airfield in the mud. But that's what he mandated we wear. So we did.
Nowadays, totally different. I haven't worn a tie to work in 20 years except for a rare formal presentation. Golf shirt and sneakers (or obvs safety boots when needed) is standard wear today. Part of me likes that but part of me respected the old dress code.

last week I was walking the floor of a kill plant processing beef.
this week I have to present to a focus group of CEOs
the only time I've seen someone wear a tie, is when we told this new hire (was a director or something in our customer support group at the time) that he needs to "dress to impress" for customer presentations.
dude showed up in a 3 piece suit w/ a tie on. looked like a total fuggin jabroni haha
I'm totally cool w/ the more casual stuff, but there are still those customers out there that are "formal". Trying to find that balance/figure that out - especially for first impressions - is a #####

a room full of Board members and a muddy ditch looking at a sewer break, it's a challenge to dress appropriately.
I have ALWAYS kept a spare shirt and pair of socks in a desk drawer just in case. Over the years the shirt has mostly come in handy due to a shirtpocket pen break or a lunchtime spaghetti incident, but that safety net has been there. Spare socks have saved me too on cold wet winter adventures.
