Everyone saw last year that DJ couldn't run this offense

Nov 27, 2022, 6:43 PM

and it was painfully evident whenever we faced a good defense.

The coaches failed to make any adjustment in the offseason. They knew the WRs we would have. They knew the TEs we would have. They knew the RBs we would have. They knew the type of QB we would have, who can't make DE reads and is too slow to get rid of the ball on RPOs.

So they went out and... did nothing to address the situation.

They didn't change the offense to suit DJ - make it a more pro-style setup with a heavy dose RB designed runs, play action passes, and traditional passes.

They didn't change the QB, to the guy that ran the read/RPO with great success all through HS and was an all-world recruit.

They just stubbornly stuck with the same thing that didn't work last year. And now they are just stubbornly sticking with it again after that absolutely pathetic performance Saturday.

My frustration isn't with DJ, it's with the coaches. This approach and this attitude they display... it's going to continue to lead us backwards.

In reality, adjustments should have started happening early last season .

I worried that all the injuries last year, along with Elliot leaving would give them the 'cover' they needed to not make the more wholesale changes that it seemed we clearly needed.

If DJ just gets healthy...
If the WRs up their game just a bit...
If the O-line isn't a revolving door this year...

But I'm afraid the issue goes much deeper, and right now I have no faith that an offensive staff overhaul is in the cards this offseason. But if we lose next week and the bowl game, perhaps that moves the needle a bit.

I hope it doesn't take that.***
